What are people's views prior to its release? News is it will blow illmatic out the water... |
I'm waiting for the shitstorm that will ensue. When Nas announced the albums title awhile back I remember the uproar.

I didn't like Hip Hop Is Dead, but i'll give this a go when it comes around. I applaud the wind-people-up title :D

I definitely read somewhere that it could match illmatic.
Anyway, I prefer god's son to anything else he's done |
When is the planned release date on this thing?
|
I doubt it will touch Illmatic or Stillmatic, but hopefully it's still a good album.
|
as of now, release date scheduled on april 22
|
|
The leaked songs are pretty promising.
|
I got the mix tape, and I laughed through most of it. I used to consider myself a Nas fan, now I consider myself an "Illmatic" fan.
|
I've heard some of the leaked songs and I didn't mind them, they were kind of good actually.
|
i have mixed feeling about this. some days i think its a good idea, other days im like what the hell was nas thinkin.
|
I think it's 25 years too late... the word isn't shocking anymore. Nas should have just called the album "Nigga Please".
|
I just find it funny that for black people, "******" is a commonly used word in their vocabulary, but for a white person it's blasphemy. And no, I'm not being racist. I don't think anyone should say it is my point.
|
So does anyone know why he changed the album name to 'Untitled'?
|
@ civic Do you really need an explanation why?
@piss me off maybe because the record company didn't want the negative publicity? |

Obviously they don't use it in the same sense as it was used all those years ago.
After N.W.A and other's started black people started using it to describe themselves it became common to some people. The whole point was to get rid of the "power" of the word. So of course if you (who im assuming is a white dude) say it to a black man its going to sound offensive just based off the history. And it's not used by all black people. It gets criticized just as much by other black Americans as it does whites. |
A better solution would be to make the word extinct in general.

Well, what do you want, a medal?
How many people have you talked about this subject with? Just because a select few rappers on mtv are saying it, and some teenagers, doesn't mean a majority of the black population uses that kind-off language. And even if they do what difference does it make? If they're not using it violently or in a derogatory sense whats the point in criticizing it. :) ^smiley face to indicate no harsh feelings. ----------------- back on subject. Re-listning to "illmatic" right now. Haven't been as impressed with the stuff afterwards, but maybe this album will surprise me. |
I think "Whackmatic" would be a fitting title for Nas' still untitled album.

Let's just end this argument right now, because we're clearly not going to reach any sort of resolution. No hard feelings. :) |

Black people can't have it both ways... if they hate that word so much then they should stay as far away from it as possible and stop using it as a term of endearment. That's like going up to your boy and saying "what's up you stupid no good piece of dog ****" every time you see him. I think most of the black community felt if they use it a lot to each other then it would make it seem like they were claiming it as their own in turn defusing the negativity of the word. I think it makes them look stupid but what do I know... I never had to feel the pain of being called that word. I do know the word is meant to degrade and put down... you can't change the meaning of a word just by using it with a pat on the back and a smile. NAS has his reasons for naming his album "******", unfortunately shock value and dollar signs are probably high on that list of reasons. |

I hate everything Nas has done after Illmatic, but Ill was a great album.

Seriously, what a bitch? He names his album '******' to create controversey, but changes it when people complain. He can't have it both ways, either he's well liked and can keep Bill O'Reiley of his back, or he is controversial and can sell more records. He can't have his cake and eat it too.
