What are people's views prior to its release?
News is it will blow illmatic out the water...

sleepy jack 03-28-2008 05:54 PM

I'm waiting for the shitstorm that will ensue. When Nas announced the albums title awhile back I remember the uproar.

As a draft this looks promising.

cardboard adolescent 03-28-2008 06:42 PM

djchameleon 03-31-2008 09:15 AM

Anybody who believes that is the biggest idiot on earth.

Piss Me Off 03-31-2008 02:41 PM

I didn't like Hip Hop Is Dead, but i'll give this a go when it comes around. I applaud the wind-people-up title :D

Actually I've done a little personal research. As it turns out, I believe that what was really meant was that it would blow STILLmatic out of the water. Which is just as well, really.

pheurton 04-01-2008 12:49 PM

I definitely read somewhere that it could match illmatic.
Anyway, I prefer god's son to anything else he's done

Dr_Rez 04-04-2008 08:34 PM

When is the planned release date on this thing?

Viat 04-13-2008 08:22 AM

I doubt it will touch Illmatic or Stillmatic, but hopefully it's still a good album.

jros08 04-13-2008 04:01 PM

as of now, release date scheduled on april 22

Pitchfork: Nas Shares Some New Album Details, Tours

pheurton 06-11-2008 07:37 AM

The leaked songs are pretty promising.

sl1ck 06-11-2008 12:57 PM

I got the mix tape, and I laughed through most of it. I used to consider myself a Nas fan, now I consider myself an "Illmatic" fan.

Billabong01 06-12-2008 08:16 PM

I've heard some of the leaked songs and I didn't mind them, they were kind of good actually.

williexwhip 06-16-2008 09:18 AM

i have mixed feeling about this. some days i think its a good idea, other days im like what the hell was nas thinkin.

Whatsitoosit 06-16-2008 01:11 PM

I think it's 25 years too late... the word isn't shocking anymore. Nas should have just called the album "Nigga Please".

Civic Depreciator 06-16-2008 01:27 PM

I just find it funny that for black people, "******" is a commonly used word in their vocabulary, but for a white person it's blasphemy. And no, I'm not being racist. I don't think anyone should say it is my point.

Piss Me Off 06-16-2008 01:28 PM

So does anyone know why he changed the album name to 'Untitled'?

Sparky 06-16-2008 01:31 PM

@ civic Do you really need an explanation why?

@piss me off

maybe because the record company didn't want the negative publicity?

Yes.

Sparky 06-16-2008 02:07 PM

Obviously they don't use it in the same sense as it was used all those years ago.

After N.W.A and other's started black people started using it to describe themselves it became common to some people. The whole point was to get rid of the "power" of the word.

So of course if you (who im assuming is a white dude) say it to a black man its going to sound offensive just based off the history.

And it's not used by all black people. It gets criticized just as much by other black Americans as it does whites.

Civic Depreciator 06-16-2008 03:19 PM

A better solution would be to make the word extinct in general.

Those are the kind of people I like. The ones that don't try to carve out their own styles, etc. based on their race. You don't come across them very often. I don't base anything I do off my race.

Sparky 06-16-2008 06:26 PM

Well, what do you want, a medal?

How many people have you talked about this subject with? Just because a select few rappers on mtv are saying it, and some teenagers, doesn't mean a majority of the black population uses that kind-off language.

And even if they do what difference does it make? If they're not using it violently or in a derogatory sense whats the point in criticizing it.

:)
^smiley face to indicate no harsh feelings.

back on subject.

Re-listning to "illmatic" right now. Haven't been as impressed with the stuff afterwards, but maybe this album will surprise me.

sl1ck 06-16-2008 07:10 PM

I think "Whackmatic" would be a fitting title for Nas' still untitled album.

No one, because I'm white and they would surely go nutso on me if I brought it up.

True, I'm mostly talking about that demographic because they relate to where I'm at currently.

Why can't I use it in a non-violent or non-derogatory way without causing a scene?

Let's just end this argument right now, because we're clearly not going to reach any sort of resolution. No hard feelings. :)

Something to do with bad press and court cases, although I think the cover speaks for itself.

You don't need to explain yourself, it's not being racist... it's just making an obvious observation.

Black people can't have it both ways... if they hate that word so much then they should stay as far away from it as possible and stop using it as a term of endearment. That's like going up to your boy and saying "what's up you stupid no good piece of dog ****" every time you see him. I think most of the black community felt if they use it a lot to each other then it would make it seem like they were claiming it as their own in turn defusing the negativity of the word. I think it makes them look stupid but what do I know... I never had to feel the pain of being called that word. I do know the word is meant to degrade and put down... you can't change the meaning of a word just by using it with a pat on the back and a smile.

NAS has his reasons for naming his album "******", unfortunately shock value and dollar signs are probably high on that list of reasons.

Yeah, agree with u. I also appreciate his Ill album the most.

Skinny. 06-19-2008 04:00 AM

Seriously, what a bitch? He names his album '******' to create controversey, but changes it when people complain. He can't have it both ways, either he's well liked and can keep Bill O'Reiley of his back, or he is controversial and can sell more records. He can't have his cake and eat it too.

Yeah, he's definently declined in quality.
