Modern, mainstream charts music all too often is about sex as it's a theme used to sell. Stevie Wonder didn't have to do music videos about sex because had talent in abundance and fans wanted something different and were more appreciative of real musical talent (i.e. the ability to sing or play an instrument which is so lacking in the 'stars' of today.)
There is plenty of good music out there today. Some portrayals of sex in music videos can be good, that's if there is a sensitive representation of it and there is a genuine message, rather than it just simply being used as a commercial tool to sell music videos. Ed Sheerhan, The A Team is quite a good example of a modern music video that portrays issues such as homelessness and how it can lead to prostitution (obviously linked with sex.) |
