So Bowie didn't change his persona for publicity and fame? Come on. Reveal your inner cynic!

And yes, Eminem has always been a respected artist until "Encore" which wasn't even that bad of an album.

In the moment MC skills can only get you so far, it's a gimmick. Ok, so you can kick a sick freestyle; write a great song. Oh wait!

The idea that he is over rated because he is white ignores that he came through the predominantly Black underground scene in Detroit because of his skills as a rapper, not because he was white.
White boys will eat that shit up and the record companies know it. Contradiction/"standing out" sells better than run of the mill (ie, a white guy who can rap decent as opposed to a black man with the same skill).

Also, without trying to sound like a presumptuous ass (well... maybe a little), you can't really go on about who is the greatest rapper when Lil Wayne is your most played artist...
talk about smh.

I'd love to sound like a presumptuous ass and judge you for liking Eminem, whose "masterpiece" Slim Shady LP sounded like come contrived bull**** compared to two of Ghostface's finest pieces (Fishscale and Supreme Clientele) or like a watered down version of what two of Odd Future's forefront members pull off, even though they're inspired by him. Even Lil Wayne's mixtape years show better lyricism than what i've heard of Em.

Give me Eminem's finest verse and try comparing it to this:

I love Ghostface and own "Fishscale" but I wouldn't say he is way ahead of Eminem, if at all, but he is certainly a great lyricist.

Lil Wayne showing more lyrical skills than Eminem? "talk about smh" Come on mate.

"Bastard" is nowhere near "The Slim Shady LP" and this is just a fact, sorry.

Also, who cares who would "eat it up" anyway? I don't care who buys albums, or how many it sells, I care how good it is. Which is why I have no problem with Kanye West because he makes great music, or most of Jay-Z's albums.

Also, when I made the comment about Eminem coming through the underground circuit, I didn't mean he came through and got signed, I mean he was actually accepted because of his skills. Of course a white kid who is talented is going to get a brake a little bit easier in the mainstream, but he gained notoriety before he was famous.

Are you really going to quote the game to validate Eminem's street cred?

The guy has been quoted as saying Lil Wayne is the greatest too, for what it's worth.

I agree that he is better then Wayne, but that has more to do with the fact that lil wayne has gotten away with dumbing down his sound completely.

It's like choosing between feces puns (niggeh im the **** get the **** up out mah toilet) or rape/drug addled/hysteria (every eminem lyric ever)

So let's all agree Ghostface is the best.

shoot em up, BANG BANG DO ME BABEY

i love that part for some reason

better than Em by far. He experiments with rhyme schemes while Em beats the one thing he has going for him to death.

Wayne kills em. Show me an Em song that kills like these. Go for it.

Why. How.

Btw, Earl's included.

That's all Em is is sales, that's what his true legacy is. Kanye makes truly creative music, Fantasy being far ahead of anything Em ever recorded. Jay Z kills Em on principle, he's the better rapper.

Yep, a break.

Everyone dick rides eminem waaaaaayyyy too hard. Take a step back please. Yes, eminem is good at battle rapping. Sure, his flow is consistent. (OMG he's white too! what a badass)

The only thing is, he doesn't have anything on the content front other than your standard rap fare and occasionally being a whiny little bitch (who plays hard). He can't write anything that's worth listening to, and honestly, his voice sucks balls too. Also he sold out to the extreme.

There are infinitely many rappers who are just as good if not better than eminem. I would take anyone in OF over MM any day just cause their charisma is real. **** you eminem, if you're reading this, suck a big bag of moldy hot baby dicks you ***got.

If this was the "Rappers Who Happen to Be Both Incredibly Overrated and Incredibly Underrated All At the Same Time" thread.

In all seriousness, they play off of each other as well as any group does. But the lyrics are not that special. They really shine on the musical end, but their rapping is above average at best.

I believe this poll is down to ignorance rather than anything else.
Have any of the 216 people who voted Eminem heard of any of the other guys in the list?

Eminem is vastly overrated, and for me, I have never been able to tap into any of the hype that seems to prelude him.
His rhyming is a mess. He couldn't stay in synch with a beat to save himself, and Eminem has never exactly had complex beats laid on any of his tracks.

His content matter is the same old tired ****, seriously from a guy who wants to keep his daughter out of the limelight and shelter her from media attention, why the **** does he bring her up in so many songs? Hmm

Oh, I need a couple filler songs for my latest **** album...think I'll write some more about my mum, but I didn't have that bad an upbringing despite what my **** movie says so I'll just defame her.

Maybe a couple about maturation, yeah...I started this maturation many years ago but I still wind up in rehabilitation and doing shameless PR stunts when I haven't been receiving any media attention recently, despite the fact I've stated my loathing for the 'paparazzi' many times.

Maybe his fans will go back and crone about his rap battles. Okay, when was the last time Eminem was active on the underground scene?

The fact of the matter is, in the last 10 years, this guy has moved only backwards in terms of outputs yet the dickriding seems to be worse than ever.

Greatest of all time? Give me a ****ing break, wouldn't even make my top 50, or Kool Moe Dee's it would seem.

http://www.mashada.com/forums/music-...e-dees-top-50-
a.html

To conclude, Eminem is an overrated hypocrite, who to my bewilderment has gone on to receive global fame for very lacklustre MCing skills, c'mon how can there be so much praise for somebody that produced this ****.
