Nowaiy.

I can get most of those qualities out of MF Doom and he's not even one of whom i'd consider the greatest. Em is overrated and i think a lot of that is because he's white.

My personal favorite (Doseone) battling Eminem in '97. Eminem has legit freestyling skills, and both of their talents are undeniable in this battle.

No, but it certainly helped him get signed and with promotion.

Also, without trying to sound like a presumptuous ass (well... maybe a little), you can't really go on about who is the greatest rapper when Lil Wayne is your most played artist...
Sure he can, Lil Wayne supposedly "freestyles" all of his tracks, doesn't that make him a great rapper?

It's these outdated gimmicks-rap battles, freestyles, cyphers-that hurts hip hops legitimacy as a genre. Artists that take the time to craft real songs should be praised as the best, not who can come up with the best way to diss the other persons sneakers.

Eminem has always been a terrible song writer in every facet. He's great when it comes to ability to rhyme on the spot and at the expense of others, but what does that have to do with anything? It's more of a character trait then anything musically.

Okay. Eminem is a terrible song writer... Smh

Sparky 11-23-2011 03:17 PM

Example:

yes it's a pop single, not a real representation of his musician ship.

i don't give a ****, this song is obnoxiously bad.

Goofle 11-23-2011 03:21 PM

He has sold out and is now basically a pop artist, but his first three albums are immense.

What I love in BB, It is still remaining punk in their music. Yeah, funny. But also true.

He's always been a sellout. He just changed gimmicks, whether it was being the anti-christ in the beginning, to being the single loving father who must use his gift of rap so he and his daughter can escape the ghetto in 8 mile, to being a soulless transparent version of his former self who will collaborate with bruno mars.

I'll be honest- i have an affection for hating on Eminem. He has a couple songs i enjoy, and some verses that are, like you said, immense. But almost all the praise he gets is undeserved, ra the rugged man, necro make up most of what eminem is, albeit without the cute face and the help of one of the best commercial producers of all time.

Goofle 11-23-2011 03:41 PM

You cannot put having a gimmick in the same bracket as selling out in every situation. He has changed persona, as did Bowie, but until he went for club bangrrs and pop songs we was a respectable artist.

Sparky 11-23-2011 03:53 PM

So he was a respectable artist preceding his debut album? He's always been making pop songs. The bowie comparison isn't fair, his changes in persona weren't based around publicists, stylists, marketers, or at least not to the same extent. Bowie didn't have a line of clothes he was trying to sell to pre-teens.
