I agree. Most commercial rap sucks so much. There's a few people you can't knock like Outcast, but that's like all I can think of. I'm definitely feeling Big L and Binary Star. Binary Star is my favorite group of all time.

I haven't exactly dived head first into the rap scene to see what all is there and all i can really go on is from hearing stuff on the radio and tv...but lets be honest...i can't tell the difference from one song to the next...they all sound the same to me. But rap/hip-hop is a genre that I need to expand my horizons in some.

rap and hip hop from the radio blows...same with most of what they play on the music TV stations.
I'm more down with rap from like 5-10 years ago, and a BIT of modern stuff too. Like: Eminem. hes got talent.

Rap isn't too bad all in all, but this crap like Ja Rule hating 50 Cent is rather stupid. Someone needs to teach 50 cent how to shut the hell up though.

Most commercial rap is hollow. There is no substance anymore really within a few exceptions. If you listen to the beats, most of the beats they use are already used just quickened or slowed, maybe some pitch change. It is rather sad but when they find something that sells, they outdo it until the industry gets tired. I stick to underground mostly because they freely express themselves and the beats are continually changing. There is a huge market in the underground and some amazing talent.

Not that it sucks, just over played... how many songs can talk about partying.. it doesn't suck it's just been done and done over and over..

JackJeckel 01-19-2004 08:09 PM

There is some excellent commercialized rap, but I do agree, for the most part underground rap is superior.

Cannibal OX
Atmosphere
Aesop Rock

most of the Def Jux crew is hype.

black martian 09-30-2004 12:41 PM

the ghetto is drug oriented the way you dress keeps you alive so does fighting go there live there some feel its the only way to keep it real others are fake others just suck. you should listen because there good not because there underground although most the good rappers are underground

gregb 10-03-2004 12:41 AM

nas, jay z, gangstarr, common and scarface still rule

Ben 10-05-2004 01:52 PM

commercial rap is hollow, it all sounds too similar and its nothing any of us havn't heard before. Underground stuff is where all the talent is....

sheek 10-17-2004 12:55 PM

idk ........ my favorite artist of all time is big pun ...... he defines a M.C. dat could rhyme

AmericanPoet 10-18-2004 11:20 AM

Well,i guess my question is,what defines a "commercial" rap artist? i hear so much about commercial rap,and personally,i'm just a serious rap fan,so if something is good, then it's good. i hear "commercial rap" thrown around all the time, and some people say nas isn't commercial? I just don't get anymore what defines "commercial" and "real" rap music. cuz i'm sure if (some, not all) underground rappers could have commercial success they would take it in a heartbeat. just something to think about

Jesus Of Suburbia 10-30-2004 12:57 AM

all rap blows, but commercial is the worst
