Egyptian Lover
Upon having a long conversation about classic and underground hip-hop with a friend, he recommended a rapper by the name of egyptian lover.
Anyways, I was just wondering if any Egyptian Lover fans could recommend to me which albums or songs would be worth checking out. Thanks |

His style changed a bit over the years, and the quality of his output certainly degraded, but his album "On the Nile" is classic. The beats are strong, plenty of Kraftwerk esque harmonies, and even some well done guitar work.
I guess the best way to describe him would be Isaac Hayes, Kraftwerk, and Afrikaa Bambata. The sum, however, is cheesier than the parts. You know how Isaac Hayes has lyrics that leave so little to the imagination, and don't paint a picture so much as bludgeon you with crass metaphors? Well, Egyptian Lover has worse lyrics than Mr. Hayes. Combine these cheesy lyrics with Kraftwerk esque synths, and some scratching... and the music has a definite "I'm gonna rape you" vibe. Just look at the silly bastard:
