All of them cover topics not at all related to living amongst gang wars, drugs, and guns.
Exceptions.

Aside from that, gangsta rap cannot be defined as rapping about "gang wars, drugs and guns". Neither does "gangsta" necessarily refer to that lifestyle. "Gangsta" merely depicts the deprived urban streetlife background, whether or not that might involve crime. So merely rapping about the street or some related thematic topic would amount to gangsta rap, which is what a lot of UG rappers are doing.

I think we have very different opinions as to what constitutes "gangster" rap. Gangster, to me, means that the lyrics focus mainly on gang life, seeing as how that's what the genre is called. Poverty, hardship, and street life are not exclusive to people in gangs, and so I don't think these topics should be lumped in with "gangster" rap.

The problem is that you are assuming that 'gangsta' refers to gang life and being in a gang. I am absolutely positive that its meaning is to be construed far more widely than that.

and what gives you that idea? "gangster" by definition means someone who is in a gang. It makes no sense to attach meaning to a word that is simply not there.
