Actually putting out dance music isnt selling out if the people from your neck of the woods like that kind of thing. Like you cant claim that any ATL artist has sold out because they make a dance track, thats what they do in ATL they make all sorts of retarded to us but great to them dances.

And making sure no one in my family ever has to work again is greed? It seems to me its called high business acumen.

So settling for 150,000 a year when the potential to earn a hundred times that is acceptable. However actually putting in the time, effort, and money (oh yes mainstream artists use a lot of their own money) into actually making those potential dollars real dollars should be frowned upon.

That kind of logic escapes me.

Lets apply it somewhere else. Lets take oh Brett Favre.

Would ripping up his current contract to play for the league minimum make him a better quarterback?? No. So why should that notion imply that someone is a better rapper just because they make less money or arent as concerned about money.

No-one is saying that being underground automatically makes you a better rapper. We're just saying that we prefer the work coming out of the underground, often it is much more original and intelligent than what is in the mainstream currently, because mainstream rappers have to be concerned about appealing to a much larger audience of casual music listeners who tend to appreciate different things than the members of this board.

Speaking of underground, 607 is some good stuff, better than a lot of mainstream.

I only endorse him because he's local. :[

I've probably already said this at some point, but 'gangsta' and 'underground' are not contrastive terms: much of underground rap IS gangsta rap, and much of gansta rap is most definitely underground. Hence, the comparison is stupid beyond words.

Actually I'd go so far as to say that underground rap is almost exclusively 'gansta' at least in some sense or other. Those UG acts that are not gangsta are really the exception to the rule.

The question in that case is basically "what's better, rap or rap?"

Underground all the way. Modern gangster rap is one very few genres I hate with a passion

I would definitely disagree with the statement that underground rap is almost exclusively 'gangsta.' DL incognito, atmosphere (when they could have been considered underground) sweatshop union (again, AGES ago when they would have been considered underground, grits, I could name more. All of them cover topics not at all related to living amongst gang wars, drugs, and guns.
