BACK TO OUTKAST! They are right now one of the best groups out there, in any music genre. Ask Prince who are some of the very few artists that inspire him to make music in today's age, Outkast is one of the bands he spits out. I know many of you are going to say "Prince sucks!" But, I use him as an example for he was just recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I personally also think he is a genius.
Outkast has evolved as a group. They have always done something different on each album. Their best album possibly being Aquemini, which I highly recommend, when they finally split styles, and really started to form their own seperate identities of each other. They are unique and yet still in the Hip-Hop genre, which may seem unfair because they have become so much more. When they were considered just two gangsta rappers, they were still ridiculously good. Listen to the lyrics of Elevators (Me & You). Especially listen to the last verse and listen to Andre's flow: "...But he kept smilin like a clown Facial expression lookin silly And he kept askin me, "What kind of car you drive, I know you paid I know y'all got buku of money from all them songs that y'all done made." And I replied that "I had been goin through the same thing that he had True I got more fans than the average man but not enough loot to last me To the end of the week, I live by the beat like you live check to check If you don't move yo' feet then I don't eat, so we like neck to neck..." Over time, they did what they wanted but were always good. Lyrically they are always excellent and are underappreciated because they also have good beats. They rapped about what was going on socially and in their lives (Ms. Jackson was specifically about Andre and Big Boi's relationships with females who had children by them yet were not together anymore) The fact that each of them have been able to evolve, Andre in his eclectic styles, Big Boi in his lyricism, should not be held against them. The fact that they are made what is now considered a "Pop album" in The Love Below/Speakerboxxx is not their fault. Very few people can make an Album like Andre's, that can be pop in "Hey Ya," Jazz with his "My Favorite Things," and yet still have a hip-hop flow through the whole album is amazing. Big Boi is still an excellent MC on his album. They have not sold out, they have not turned their back on hip-hop, that's who they are. It's not their fault that people now like their music. Basically they haven't followed or sounded like anyone for the past ten years. They have been unique in their sound, unlike your favorite rapper thats out right now. Outkast is one of our modern day's musical genuises and need to be respected as such, even if you don't like them. |

Outkast
I'm sure there's already a thread on these guys. They're truly one of the few good hip hop bands still around. Although I wasn't digging their last 3 albums.
Their first 3 however, SouthernPlayalisticCadillacMusic, ATLiens, and Aquemini are off the chains Aquemini's highlights are the one with Raekwon, and SpottieDoggalicious ATLiens-Elevators is one of the funkiest tunes I've ever heard SouthernPlayalisticCadillaceMusic-Awesome album, all the way through. The funny thing is I never heard any Outkast until Stankonia came out and they blew up. I wasn't digging that album too much, and was very fortunate to come across their earlier stuff. SouthernPlayalisticCadillacMusic just has a real nice vibe to it. Great music to relax to, and one of the best hip hop albums I've every heard, even though they were teens when they made it. |
