I used to like all varieties of music and listen to all of them until I discovered that most of them are crap so I narrowed down my musical intake to only well performed music than can suffice to the standards of being known as "Musical" .. the fact that you think hip-hop is music is sad to me.. heh

I had this HUGE thing typed up on why hip-hop is a credible genre. It wouldve knocked anyones socks off. Then I hit "close" instead of "expand".

Excuse me while I go pull out my hair. :|

Nothing you will say can change the fact that Rap and Hip-Hop is negative and derogitory. Demeaning women, promoting drugs, violence, and pre-marital sexual relationships, as well as cursing purfusely and being utterly negative in all respects is not my idea of anything you would want to associate yourself with ESPECIALLY not your music.. so please don't say it is "Music"

Rap artists like Kenye West, Black Eyed Peas, Jurassic 5... all good Hip Hop and none of them promote drugs or disrespecting women. But you have Jet singing Cold Hard B**** or Matchbox 20 singing about Pushing girls around. Shall I go out on a limb and say their whole genre is music is negative?

Man I learn so much from this guy...

a) women shouldn't sing
b) hip hop is not music
c) people who listen to hip hop are idiots

I really am glad this guy has been adding to these intelligent discussions...

In my shot down response, I had included that:

The vast majority of hip-hop and rap has gone to hell, and back, several times. However you cannot state that the entire genre is corrupt. Artists like The Fugees, they are not about any of the things you've mentioned. You are mistakenly labelling all hip-hop with the false label it gets from people like 50 Cent, and those G-Unit morons. They are not artists, they are record label formed, produced and packaged so that they can sell records, clothing, and everything else under the sun.

"hey this guy is built, he got shot nine times, lets put him in front of a microphone and tell him what to say" that is not how real music is created. However, if you've listen to half the underground hip-hop out there you'll realize that the roots of the genre are pure, and most definatley music.

There are alot of Canadian examples to this. K-OS, perfect. His music is melodical, smooth, hes got an actual voice that he uses to sing about all kinds of valid issues. Just get yout hands on "Heaven only Knows" by K-OS, I guarantee you, that you will think of underground, conscious hip hop differently.

Thats not a good example, that song was written about a relationship that turned sour in my opinion and the guy is realizing, well, how much of a Bitch she was. It is very hard to find rock music that has any of the derogatory, negative messages that mainstream hip-hop contains. Unless of course your talking about rap-rock, which needs to die in a corner. Fast.

I find it interesting how someone who claims that all hip hop does is demean women etc etc and that's why it isn't good music can claim in another thread that women flat out shouldn't be in rock/punk bands. hmm now isn't THAT comment demeaning to women? Interesting....
