Yeah I enjoy Oh No also. I have Dr. No's Oxperiment and Oh No vs. Now-Again, haven't heard the others.

I've always wanted to get into Madlib, but I've never had a clue where to start. I've heard some of his stuff, though. I really don't like his rapping (sped-up voice is hard to take seriously). I think I said in the general music suggestions thread that I was looking for his instrumental stuff.
What I meant was that I didn't want Quantisisimo (or whatever). I know he's backed some very, very talented MC's. I'll be willing to take an album he produced for another MC (or group of MC's) as long as the MC is real (or sings about what he actually has the right to sing about. You know, like, not rapping about a car he doesn't have? It's fine if he's rapping about a car he DOES have. Material bragging is fine with me, if it's honest material bragging. I can hear the difference from a mile away. I just can. Even if it's about that.) With that in mind, what's a good place to start with for this insane turntableist/producer? |

If you want instrumental stuff, I've only checked out Beat Konducta 1 & 2 as well as Medicine Show #5, all being very good.

I also love Shades of Blue. It was the first Madlib album I heard. I definitely dig the instrumental stuff more. I've recently procured most of his discography, so I'll try to up that as soon as I can. I'm also going to check out his little brother!

Still haven't heard Shades of Blue myself! But I have heard Untinted, the source album.

Wow, you need to get on that. Shades of Blue is pure genius. It is the only Madlib I've heard (well, I've heard a couple of his projects with other rappers), but I seriously feel like it the only Madlib I need. I just listened to it last night as I was going to sleep in fact. It got me into some truly great Blue Note records I would have never heard otherwise.
