I am not really that big into hip hop but from what I have heard, Mos Def would have to be up there.

5-10 yrs ago this would've been the definitive list. But all these guys have kinda fallen off. As far as im concerned all their latest albums were mediocre at best.

Best rapper alive? Let's see...

Eminem has fallen off, no edge, good timing, he could still come back.

Jay-Z. American Gangster was beyond amazing, despite being dissed by the label that put it out. The Jigga Man is on the top of the world.

T.I. is an option. He brought the South to fame. His swagger is unlike anyone else in the game.

Besides the obvious choices, there are the less known ones that tend to be 100 times better than the mass produced sh*t: Canibus, Chino XL, Juice, Supernatural, Brother Ali, Jin.

Currently, the greatest rapper on the face of the Earth is....*drum roll*.....

Jay-Z

Normally, I would have to say Slug or The RZA, but after American Gangsters debut, definitely Jay Z.

Honestly, that intro track is brilliance if I've ever heard it.

Eric B, Rakim, and KRS definitely deserve a nod. They were some of the godfathers of hip-hop and rap. But being the first doesnt necesarrily make them the best, no diss to them though. And Nas is just insanely overrated.

Yes, when I listen to Rakim's Paid In Full, it would be hard to admit that there's ever been a smoother flow than that. The way he blends words together seamlessly. He sounds like he just woke up from a nap, but he still has a story that's worth listening to.
The Donald I agree with your statement, but I think Nas is pretty good. I feel Nas and Jay-Z are equally talented, and where I come from Jay-Z is generally much more well known and regarded as great than Nas, so I was surprised to see you list him overrated.
