Canibus
I'm not a big fan of rap but one artist that does catch my attention is Canibus.
If you have heard Rip The Jacker then you know what I'm talking about. Poet Laureate II is one of the most intelligent rap songs that haven ever graced my ears. Give that album a listen if you already haven't and you may be pleasantly surprised. |

CANIBUS IS one of my inspirrations.
He is a good writer. Eminem ghost wrote jack the ripper strikes bck. that LL did. Canibus tore up LL in 2nd round K.O. LATERZZ

I'll giv you that, he is a good writer, but like, when I said I like Bushwick Bill in another thread cuz he sounds pissed off, he's pissed about valid things, like war, or the gov. Canibus sounds pissed off, but more at himself, which he actually talks about in some of his songs

He's frustrated that he can't garner the kind of recognition that he (and tons of hip-hop fans) feels he deserves. And before you discount him for not being focused on real issues like war etc...just know that he fought in Iraq. Besides, Canibus isn't always angry, he just has an agressive delivery.

the funny thing is he could have been wildly successful if he wasn't so co*ky and went out of his way to say he was better than LL Cool J on the song LL was nice enough to let him rap on, and his remake of Eminem's Stan where he meets a suicidal fan and helps him, it's a nice sentiment, but does anyone actually buy that he would do that?

I can't believe we don't have a better Canibus thread. He may have fallen off (hopefully just taking sabbatical). His old stuff was a lyrical goldmine. He recently competed in King-Of-The-Dot's "Vendetta: Battle Royale." It was supposed to be a huge rap battle. I guess he couldn't memorize his lines, and instead forfeited and just read like 30 pages of rhymes that he had written in preparation for the event. He knows he's not a freestyler, and he had no business being in that competition. Either way, I've still got love for him and his rhymes.
