MF Doom
couldn't find a thread on this legend. he's one of my favourite emcee's. in his own words, "flows so weird his own peers couldn't follow it". he's got a couple alter egos, viktor vaughn, king gheedorah, and most recent work is with DJ dangermouse, together called dangerdoom. good songs are:
Lickupon - Viktor Vaughn No Names - Dangerdoom Saliva - Viktor Vaughn Meat Grinder - Madvillain (with madlib on beats) All Outta Ale - MF Doom Bells of Doom - MF Doom Crosshairs - Dangerdoom "used to turn your tongue the color red, now they wanna fill you full of lead, what the **** that young fella said?" incredible. |
Just got Vaudville Villain and man, I dig this guy. Like a shovel.
|
The songs i've heard from him and liked are:
Raid Sofa King Nuclear HipHop Beef Rap The Mask |
I've heard DangerDoom and it pretty wicked.
|
Needs to get rid of that stupid mask. Must think hes Russell Crowe. What a tard
|
dude the mask is kick ass. its unique, plus its getting rusty... i mean how real is that.

Don't hate cause you aint got no flow.
DOOM is one of my fave rappers of all time. Not only do he rep Stones Throw to the fullest, he got lines sicker than my chain. Madvillainy? Too raw. Check out these to see his lyrical flow. Is He Ill? - MF DOOM & Molemen Project Jazz - Hell Razah, Talib Kweli, MF DOOM Fancy Clown - Madvillain Fazers - King Gheedorah Voices Pt. 1 Feat MF DOOM - MF GRIMM |
I like Sofa King. 'Old School Rules' with Talib Kweli is also brilliant.

yeah, this guy sucks
I like this kind of music, but when I heard this it just seemed so pompous and ****y, I like rap that's got soul. This **** has got no soul to it. To be this self assured and lacking in humility is to deny the very things that make u human. I'm sorry, guys, this dude sucks w/ capital S. |
give the man a chance, he's got soul out the assh0le! and he's got hands down the best free-flowing lyrical style i've ever heard, it blows my mind. if you listen to some of the viktor vaughn tracks and just work out the metaphors i think you'll find its funny, soulful, and all around solid.

Oh ****, anyone hear his new song with Guilty Simpson called "Mash's Revenge"?
MySpace.com - MF DOOM - Hip Hop - www.myspace.com/mfdoom they used to play this beat on Adult Swim and i'm glad that the put doom over it. |
How has nobody mentioned Metal Fingers?! Its basically MF Doom doing his own instrumentals. I know...he an amazing lyricist, but its some of the best instrumental stuff ive heard. Check that **** out
|
I only heard about MF Doom because of a cd compilation that Adult swim was hawking. He's on there with madlib and a few other people I forget their names.
|
whether he's Viktor Vaughn, Madvillain, Danger Doom, MF DOOM, etc. Daniel Dumile is always keeping it real. Madvillainy and The Mouse and the Mask are both some of my favorite hip hop albums ever. if you're interested, check out the video for All Caps on youtube. that has to be my favorite tune by him.
|
Easily one of my favourite rappers.
|
another new collaborative effort this time with dude from TV on the radio. Needless to say it's very awesome and enjoyable |

Sitek + DOOM = music is alive and well in the 2010s. Goes to show ya, never assume anything. I mean, who would have thought that a small imprint (Lex) of an underground UK label (Warp) would make music exciting again a decade after its inception? |
I'd never heard of them before, the only artist i recognize on their wiki is Doseone. Are they worth looking into?
|
Well, I think you don't like Sage Francis but he came up on Lex (you might check out his group Non-Prophets if you haven't - you might like them and Lex released their ****).
Also, Boom Bip is good. Some of his instrumental stuff was released by Lex. edit: also that Doom/radiohead song comes to us courtesy of Lex |
DOOM is much tighter on that track than on Retarded Fren. Love the bass on that beat as well.

Here's why I feel that DOOM matches it: The first fifty seconds feature brilliant rhymes that match the beat perfectly. Then Doom goes on to perform a bit of an almost-acapella-battle style until the beat comes back at about 1:10. Then Doom does what he does best for over a minute: raps brilliantly over weird beats for over a minute. Then, like a ninja, he stays silent until about 2:50 and goes back to verbally matching the track and repping some peers until the end. All around a great song. |
yeah doom is a pretty tight rapper sometimes

@mr dood its just one song. Don't you people go on pitchfork every few hours? |
pitchfork is for farmers... but seriously, no I don't
|
These latest Doom releases have been really solid. Makes me wonder where the fuck Madvillainy 2 is. It has to be madlib just taking forever to make the best beats anyone has ever heard cause I can't imagine what else could be holding it up at this point.
|
Damn, I've been playing that JJ DOOM track so much since I first heard it. Such a great song.
|
Him and Ghost are also working pretty heavily on DOOMSTARKS from what I've heard, which might be adding to the delay of Madvillainy 2.
