^ Well to be far cas, the first two DMX albums had a little more to offer lyrically than most of his stuff that came after. Even on the album you're talking about, One More Road and The Professional at least shows some storytelling and MC ability on DMX's part.

Yes, it is definitely time for a change. Rap is turning into a trend, not a genre. The age group for rap has lowered considerably and it has now lost a lot of it's credibility due to rappers gunning for that market all the time. I know it makes a lot of money but where are the days when a single rap song could change the world? They are going, and if rappers don't do something soon they will be gone...

once samples were subjected to royalties rap took a nosedive, I am actually surprised anyone listens to it at all. Unless you are like Necro and just steal anything you like without any fear of lawsuits, he actually used "Billie Jean" on a song completely lambasting Michael Jackson.

As far as I am concerned with the advent of internet downloading, samples should be public domain once again

Couldn't have said it better. Not everybody is going to agree on who's the best.

Rap/Hip Hop needs a shakeout or changeover - it is as bad if not worse in terms of silliness and being repetative as 80's metal got.
