i own most of those albums-nas,de la, tribe,nwa,beasties. but for some reason i have never ever listened to that public enemy album, i have a few tracks and i respect them from what ive read and all the various articles and tv shows this has been about. so im thinking, tomoro im gunna go buy it, its obviously a good album and yeah as you say its been said its done alot for hip-hop.
i think de la influenced hip-hop alot though, but in different way, dre and nwa brought out a completely differnent side of hip-hop. chuck d of public enemy speaks of de la being the 'most influecial hip-hop group of the last 20 years'.
public enemy, de la soul and groups like that put hip-hop in a good direction whereas dre, nwa decided to push their musical message as what chuck d descibes as 'nigga nigga nigga self degrading stuff,' he describes this as a easy way out for artists, whereas bands like public enemy pushed it in a better direction, more intelligent rap.
