Nas was on a totally differently level when writing Illmatic. Only a couple other times in Hip Hop History has someone gotten into that kind of a zone. Illmatic is the epitome of a hip hop album, if you dont like it, or at least respect it, you dont like Hip Hop.
Years after Illmatic dropped, Nas said in an interveiw that he couldn't even beleive some of the sh*t he spit on that record. NOw thats some sh*t right there. And to go along with the best street/gritty/New York style rhymes ever layed down, were some of the best beats, from the best producers on the planet.
Its pretty safe to say that your favourite artists, favourite album, is probably Illmatic
