I've listened to plenty of great gangsta rap. But the whole concept has turned into a parody. Even back with 2Pac it was becoming a parody, with the whole ridiculous "Thug Life" thing. The only gangsta rap groups that I like these days is **** like Dead Prez who actually have something to say. Of course they're more concious rap than gangsta rap, so they don't count.

How was tupacs thug life a parody? He got shot (multiple times, in multiple instances) and killed.

You want your gangsters to be realistic-meaning uneducated, frustrated, drug addictited, violent, masochistic-and then be articulate and conscious?

I give credit to the real G's who are like that, but a lot of real gangsta rap for example strong arm steady are incredibly limited because they're stupid hood fellows

god damn that man madlib can produce!

i'm not about to argue with you about the merits of gangsta rap

here's the problem: you defended Dessa earlier with, "i'm tired of gangsta rap, it's been 20 years, think of something new" -- that's some cliche, underground fanboy moron's argument. "well, at least they're not gangsta rap!" the fuck is that??

well, you've had alternatives to gangsta rap for over 20 years, too... so stop complaining "think of something new," how about you look for some of those alternatives? i gave you a list with some really great artists, but i doubt you checked any of those artists... you just came back with that stupid response attempting to degrade gangsta rap. if you're here for music, then start studying up on that list. just start with a name that sounds cool to you, work your way from there. you're looking for hip hop that's not about guns, drugs, being hard or girls, then that's a decent place for you to start. if you're here for music, get to work, start listening, i gave you what you wanted. next time respond to me about that, i don't wanna hear you complain about a subgenre that you're trying to block out to sustain your newly found "real hip hop" underground fanboy persona

comes off as harsh, but if you're here for music, then you shouldn't give a fuck how you feel about me & my mean words. go listen to the music i gave you. if not, your loss, scrub.

Could you possibly be more superior or pretentious?

Um, I did. That's how I found Dessa. I'm not gonna get in some childish elitist pissing war over who knows more artists.

I listen to what I want, when I want. I don't have to justify my own musical taste by trying to compete with you.

"Newly found underground fanboy persona"? I don't think you're arguing with me. I think you're arguing with all the other dumb kids who've pissed you off over the years.

Me? You're the one throwing a hissy fit because I apparently bashed your favorite music.

Yeah, this conversation has reached the childish pissing war point, so I'm out. Deuces!

you defended Dessa with "at least she's not gangsta rap." if it makes me pretentious to think that's a cheesy reason to like something, so be it

it seems more pretentious to me, though, to give something merit just because it's not gangsta rap...

well, my point is you're sleeping on a lot of dope artists, if you listened to some of them, you might see why someone like matious would call Dessa bland.

I didn't realize giving someone recommendations of what they apparently want was the equivalent of an elitist pissing war...

"i don't have to justify my own musical taste by trying to compete with you"

what the hell does that even mean? where'd you get that from? justify your musical taste by competing with me? the fuck

okay, you go ahead and listen to "what you want when you want," you're obviously not that interested in finding new music, because you're ignoring a bunch of recs from me on the basis that you dislike how i'm talking to you, boohoo

lol @ people

omg, someone disagrees with me, they're just throwing a hissy fit and being mean!

yet you ignore what i've given you, again, out of bias (hey, man, i used the word bias--this is your chance to say "no ur the biased one!! ur judging me!")

you're also wrong about gangsta rap being my favorite music, i actually prefer most (i hate this word) "alternative" artists, it just happens to work out that way--that doesn't mean i'm gonna dismiss other shit

yeah, you're ducking recommendations because i'm not being gentle enough

you want a kiss homie?

Kinda off-topic but I just watched a pretty good film of a Tupac interview from when he was in prison for sexual assault charges that he continually denied. It was filmed a couple years before his death and explains his point of view more than any of his albums do I think. Watch it if you have interest in his definition of THUG LIFE.

Also this is pretty good stuff! v (Sorry none of my post has anything to do with female rappers).

haha on netflix? I just watched that. It made me like and dislike tupac more. His predictions of the prison system were accurate.

But yeah that whole strong arm steady album is dope, but all cuz madlib. Seriously i'd get the instrumental if you can,the rapping can be cringe-worthy, i think they have a song about keeping your teeth clean or something its awful.

Yep. Good ol' Netflix. Keeps me on my game.
I really didn't like him much at all before I watched it though. Now I like him a little bit. The film's a fascinating 45 minutes at least.

Just found this girl's track through Del, he does a feature in the middle...

Pretty well thought out and executed. Love the beat, love the video, Del kills it, and Hopie does very well considering my original skepticism. Thoughts?
