To repeat myself yet again "internal rhymes, offbeat rhymes, multiple syllable rhyming, alliteration, assonance rhyming, metaphors, wordplay, personification, hyperbole, similies, double entendres...i could continue the list but i feel like i'm wasting my time." if you had read ALL of my posts you would see i had already answered your question^ i wasn't deflecting i was just tired of repeating myself. Anyone who knows anything about lyricism will agree with me that eminem is nowhere near the level he was at. Liking what he's talking about, liking his flow, liking his delivery, liking his production this is all opinion. Even liking the lyricism is opinion. But whether or not he is using it is entirely fact. How can you not understand this? I'm viewing this from an entirely unbiased technical viewpoint. Does he use those techniques? No. Did he use those techniques before? Yes. That is the difference. His writing has gradually become lazier and lazier. His rhymes are very basic one syllable rhymes and he very rarely uses any of the techniques i mentioned. This makes him a bad lyricist. Whether that makes him a bad rapper or not is your opinion. But i'm a big fan of the pure, raw and original hip hop. Like lowkey said; "Before it was about street credibility When it was he's alright but he's better lyrically"

I did read that. How many internal rhymes exactly differentiate good from bad? Is it 5, or 7? Oh and 13 instances of alliteration per song, right?

Either you're purposefully disagreeing with me because you enjoy debating, despite knowing i'm right (hoping this is the case). Or you are genuinely stupid. Did you even study english at school? Do you know anything about poetry or rap? I'm tired of repeating myself, i know i am right and i know you are wrong. If you can't reach the level of intelligence to understand something so simple as lyricism or if you choose to ignore it then that's your decision. It's just a shame hip hop has dumbed down so far it's brought in fans the likes of you. Edit: If you think anything eminem has released in the last 5 years is equal (lyrically) to these 3 tracks then your opinion is officially void. sick!^ awesome^ ^^ just thought i'd say that his delivery on the way i am is also phenomenal.

You come off as a troll because, instead of debating, you put down other people because they have a different opinion than you. And yes, I studied English (in High School). I've read about Hip-Hop and Rap. You can't be right or wrong with an opinion.

You can if it isn't opinion.
How do people not understand this? Lyricism is fact. Liking music is opinion/taste. You don't even have to like the old eminem, you can prefer his new stuff. But lyrically his older stuff is superior, this is fact. I despise big l, i really don't like his music at all. But despite me not liking him at all i still rank him as one of the greatest lyricists because he was a good lyricist. Seems like i'm the only person in this thread being unbiased. The rest are just playing favourites....big surprise.

what makes a good lyricist isn't fact though because what constitutes EFFECTIVE use of assonance, alliteration, metaphors, similies, hyperbole, irony etc is entirely SUBJECTIVE. A fact is something that can be EMPIRICALLY PROVEN And REPLICATED. This is basic knowledge, far more basic than the opinion you tote as fact on the internet.

We all AGREE that Eminem was more lyrically talented then than he is now. But you can't say that he's lost ALL of his ability.
