A new wave thread without Wham, blondie, Culture Club, or berlin. For shame! And I've said before and I will say it again, **** the cure.

I Love Devo. People write them off as a novelty band, but if you have to listen to the lyrics. The stuff may sound simple but it's great. I especialy like Hardcore Vol. 1 & 2.

yeah Billy Idol is heaps good.

gen-X were inspired by the Who

The Police are borderline new wave/progressive rock.

Were'nt they also called, new wave/reggae, in the late 70s early 80s?

SATCHMO 09-01-2005 04:51 PM

Maybe!?!? They do have some reggae like syncopation in some of their music, but I don't really think that qualifies them as reggae.

All_Nite_Dinah 09-01-2005 05:12 PM

The police had more 2tone rythm similarities than reggae.

Declan MacManus (Elvis Costello) was about, slap bang in the middle of the punk movement during the mid 70's.
Before the term 'New Wave' was coined at a slightly later date.

Although his music would be suited (at that time) more to New Wave than Punk.
Far too talented, musically. ;)

There's a lot of terrible, terrible, terrible new wave out there.

And some good stuff.

Seriously though, did someone above me mention Culture Club and Berlin? Christ.
