the term "pop punk" is for when you're talking about Avril Lavigne

the word is totally meaningless if you're trying to split hairs between OG punk bands
it's certainly not a dividing line, just an example that came to mind. Not a very good example, I'll admit that. Of course the Sex Pistols are accessible too; so are many metal bands which certainly aren't pop. There is clearly a difference in attitude and sound with the Ramones/Buzzcocks; a difference sufficiently big that I wouldn't call it splitting hairs. I find writing about music hard so I'm not good at explaining it but I think you know what I mean

Pop punk was coined in 1977. Ridiculously prescient if elph's definition is right.

this and the Avril Lavigne comment is just your definition: you add on some negative notions which aren't part of many definitions of pop. Also, the Ramones were sanitized and commercial

Ramones are not in a genre they are the genre
um all genres are retroactive. A band can be both punk and pop punk; pop punk is a subgenre. *insert obligatory venn diagram*

I never thought you'd use the opinions of normies to back up your argument

But like I said, I think it depends on your definition, and your definition is too loaded imo
btw, I wouldn't even call Avril Lavigne punk based on what I've heard of her, just pop

Yeah that's not how genre works.

You share a label with the Bad People. Everyone does. Quit fronting with this jwb type beat.
