but it's certainly punk to me and unassailable (goes without saying)

It's the perfect jumping off point for post-punk. It sounds like a "real" punk band taking a flying leap off that diving board with confidence and vision. So yeah it's definitely a ****ing punk album even by the standard definition afaic.

OMG how did I forget about that amazing album? Elph can bitch all he wants about "pop punk" as a term but it describes that album perfectly. A lot of what I associate with pure pop is the exploration of the all-encompassing, maximalistic hook, and Singles Going Steady hits me as hard in that way as Ke$ha, Britney Spears, or Madonna do.

but for a more straight sound you might dig The Zeros too

I think I only listened to them once and thought they sounded like a slowed down Ramones (and I love when the Ramones slow down) and really dug them.

I'm not declaring the first two as Punk band. However I think they are important in my book. The Dictators were on of the first bands that had that sound, and being a drummer you might like the cover of California Sun. Simply Saucer were a band that almost fell into total obscurity. They have a style somewhere between Garage and Punk in sound.

Gang Green - Preschool

Holy crap. You all don't disappoint.

I'm going to start by listening to "Swell Maps" because the name is odd. I always gravitate towards odd.

The Batlord 04-02-2020 08:33 PM

Then you need Pere Ubu in your life on name alone. From the same Ohio scene as Devo and also oddball as ****. Maybe more punk but also more weird.

The Batlord 04-02-2020 08:42 PM

I'll prove you wrong by naming my sailboat after them and crossing the Pacific!

The Booman 04-02-2020 08:57 PM

Isn't Pere Ubu a Sushi restaurant in Marseille?

The Batlord 04-02-2020 09:00 PM

Oh wait, ****, Booman is into jazz? Have the Contortions.

**** yes. I'll probably check out a few of those myself. I've basically been heavy on 60s/70s rock for the past year or so while shedding a lot of the classic rock stuff I listened to when I was younger without having the proper old school art rock education to replace those bands I've dropped.
