STP are way more subtle than SP though

these are two of the best songs of the era and a smacky melange of jazz inspired neo psychedelia





whereas even when knitting together their own dreamy quilt of prog/psych loveliness SP were still all about direct guitar fueled rocking that also managed to present an undeniable mastery of texture and distortion.

Mellon Collie is easily the most eclectic "mainstream" rock album I've ever heard. At least from that time.
