Well, they are punk, but more specifically, they are a hardcore punk band.
So, since both options are given, the more correct answer is hardcore punk.

It`s still a sub genre , and I don`t really pay any attention to them.

It`s all under the punk umbrella at the end of the day, therefore to me they`re a punk band.

I really don`t see how someone could fail to understand that
