You've yet to prove how Alexisonfire are screamo, all you've said to it is "because i say so" which doesn't prove anything. If you have any reasons and factual opinion and etc.. to back it up then by all means make a thread in the emo forum and prove it instead of making cheap shots about it in other posts.
no i'm not saying you guys made it up.. but jsut because you guys go around sites and think your studying facts about music and random quotes and things you've read doesn't make it true.. i don't agree with half the crap i've read..

number one sunny day... are not emo.. sorry there not..

indie- emo = me just laughing my ass off at that whole sub genre thats been completely made up..

Completely made up? Nah, its also reffered to as post-emo if you're more familiar with that term. How aren't bands like Sunny Day, Mineral, Braid, Joan Of Arc, Jets To Brazil, Christie Front Drive emo? As for saying Sunny Day aren't emo thats a bunch of crap they pioneered the whole sound, combining emo, post-hardcore and indie rock. They spawned a bunch of bands that imitated their sound, you can't deny the influences from emo they use and have. We didn't make up the sub-genre, thats bullshit. I trust hookers opinion on it being a real genre and everything i've read over someone who considers Alexisonfire screamo. And I'm going to bed, i'm tired, so please make an intelligent post as to how they aren't emo, and actually back it up with facts and reasoning instead of your typical "cuz i say so" arguements.

Just to back my opinion up some more, and while fourfa is wrong at some points they're right here.

It was a nice alternative to a steady diet of hardcore.

-There is a valid element of emo in the vocals here (along with occasional octave chord). It's not as easy to identify as the mournful screaming in the original emo style, tending to consist more of greatly drawn-out phrases detailing very emotional lyrics with ironically light and poppy singing.

-Sunny Day Real Estate came up with a very original post-hardcore meets emocore at an indie rock show sound. This inspired a spawn of imitators even more shameless than the Fugazi and Quicksand clones. Which leads one to observe: post-hardcore emerged when the hardcore scene tired of the same seven-year-old sounds inspired by a few innovative hardcore bands. A few innovative post-hardcore bands come out with a totally new sound out of nowhere (Fugazi, Quicksand, SDRE, Drive Like Jehu), and spawn legions of imitators. Basically straight out of Thomas Kuhn's theories...

Really?

They sound pretty emo to me, but then again i'm not the expert.

But aren't genres always made up?

To me if bands share a certain characteristic or sound (which a lot of emo bands do) they can be put into a certain category, in other words a genre or a sub-genre.

Genres are nothing more than just discriptions used to discribe certain bands and their sound, instead of having to discribe the sound of every band in detail it would be much easier to say they sound like this other band, you know what i mean?

Tis' ok if you dont.

Black Flag thread not emo thread.

So how about all those bands that sound alot like Black Flag that were often on SST records? You know the likes of The Nig-Heist and Stains and later Bl'ast!. So is anyone a fan of those bands?

The thing that is confusing is that Hardcore Punk is different from Hardcore. Hardcore refers to bands like Converge, the Murder of Rosa Luxemburg, ect., whereas Hardcore punk refers to bands like Minor Threat, black flag, ect., I voted hardcore under the assumption that the original poster meant hardcore punk, and not simply hardcore.

your adj. The possessive form of you.
Used as a modifier before a noun: your boots; your accomplishments.
A person's; one's: The light switch is on your right
