1. The Modern Lovers made all of those geek/hipsters obsolete over two decades before they even existed and did it without all the lame 90s **** associated with indie rock.

2. Their rhythms are cool and strange enough to **** on all those bands who sound like them.

3. The Modern Lovers sound current in 2018 while those other bands never did.

4. THEY SO ****ING CATCHY, ***GOT!!!

And yet they do this while sounding odd no matter what time period you associate them with. If you told me this was a 90s album I'd totally buy it without any question and still be confused that a band could sound so idiosyncratic. If you told me this was a 2018 album I'd marvel that a band could channel decades past so brilliantly while still moving rock music forward.

By the time bands were making albums that souned anything like this it had become safe to sound like this because it happened organically, but the Modern Lovers just skipped all the reasonable musical evolution and did it at a time that to do so would require being ****ing weirdos to ignore everything they should have thought they should be doing at the time.

You can totally hear the Velvet Underground influence but even VU sound like a band of their time, just one who blows your mind that they could take those psychedelic and garage influences and do something so original with it. But the Modern Lovers sound like a band who unlocked the idea of "normal people" making a "normal sounding album" in an era of Led Zeppelin.

In a perfect world this album would have been released at the time it was recorded and destroyed the billboard with six singles that all went to #1. The Modern Lovers debut is simply the most timeless rock album of all-time and that is punk as ****.

Remember that guy, rubber soul? He was all about making top ten lists. But I am not that guy. I don't care for that. I am not really into rating or ranking bands (or songs).

**** I mean you can almost credit Modern Lovers for sparking that kind of music up in The States
, ***GOT!!!
Weird how you're paranoid that I might make the tiniest slight against you and then you go off and call someone a "***GOT!!!" Well don't that beat all.

Jonathan Richman use to sleep on John Cale's couch.

Cool. It's seems odd that he didn't sound as experimental but I think it's fantastic that he didn't take the influence to sound as weird as possible but to sound exactly what he wanted to sound like. As if the Velvet Underground were a license to just go wild in whatever way you think is wild.

That's fine.

You'll notice that I don't talk to you much. I like talking to people who I feel that I'm talking to and who are talking to me. I never feel that way with you. You have much less possibility of being called a ***got from me because I simply don't have fun talking to you.

I need to listen to more Jonathan Richman but I'm lazy.

You use to take the piss out of indie bands, all female indie bands, etc ... even Punk, and now cause you made a top ten list like rubber soul would do you're somehow an expert? Has rubber soul influenced you that much?

You act like your some sophisticated architect but really you're no more than some pizza delivery guy kinda exactly like Norm from Something About Mary. btw that movie had some good music. What was the name of the guitar player that sang in between scene?

I made a punk thread for fun. Do I have to be an expert for that? And why female indie bands? Have I made it a point to be sexist about indie? I'm not sure exactly what your point is unless you're too self-conscious to make threads about topics you don't feel you can boast over.

Well that is how I remember you, saying jerk things to people who like all female indie bands. It's just the way I see you act towards WD, Ori, or me cause we listen to those bands.

Or maybe you're sensitive to criticism of women cause you like protecting them as a Christian gentleman. Cause you're a sexist if you didn't understand my implication.
