Putting your song in a video game is not selling out. It is promotion.
Besides, pretty sure any money seen from that just goes back into the label to help out other bands.

Guitar Hero and EA Sports are pretty mainstream.

One band I could never get into. I'm talking from the beginning also. My skater friends dug NOFX in high school and they have a huge following in So-Cal for obvious reasons. They have managed to hang around and keep their fanbase which isn't always so easy in the genre. Honestly i never considered them very punk they sound too poppy for my taste.

Before they were a small time label with a few staff members, I think Bad Religion signed to help the label, not to become rock stars. Depends entirely on the reason for signing.

NOFX is incredible. Fat Mike is astounding.
And last time I checked, selling out is when you completely change your image and sound for the gratification of a larger, commercial fanbase. NOFX is clearly the opposite.

If I was in a punk band I'd put my song in a video game, no questions asked. Music in video games (especially skateboarding video games) is always awesome. If that's selling out, then so be it.

I would not care. I mean what, if up to people with this attitude, how will bands make money? do they think you can just release an album without an sort of promotion or hype and it will go plantinum overnight? come on now...
I know some may not want to admit it, but being a musician is a job. Serious musicians need money to make their art. It is not selling out to put your song in a video game.. that just spawns from self important punks who think anybody who sells more than 10 copies of an album has become mainstream sell outs. Kids who do not understand how the world really works ya know. If up to the kids who think like that, every band would be playing in little clubs for 50 people making a couple hundred bucks a night. In the real world you need money to live, unless you plan to just be a weekend rocker and work an upscale job... you can not afford the lifestyle of just playing for a handful of people all the time for peanuts.. if you can make some extra money on the side putting a song in a video game i say go for it if it helps put food on the table.
