At the request of le JTF

OFF!

I'm only familiar with their release promptly titled First Four EPs but it's some top notch early hardcore scene worship. Heavily influenced by the likes of Black Flag (probably because Keith Morris is the vocalist for OFF! as well), this thing is hooky and just the right amount of punchy. It's not going to bash you over the head with crazy syncopated guitar riffs or the angular all over the place composition that I like in my heavier stuff, but what it will do is bring you right back to the glory days of hardcore. You don't really need to look too far into this one, just put it on and crack a beer, it's guaranteed to please.

All of Off's shit is great. I'm glad to see 60 year olds playing punk rock.

This is obviously one of the better ones of this past decade. Although I'm more a fan of the record that came after this one.

not sure which i prefer but there both pretty rad. the second one definitely sticks more though, really catchy.

A lot of the time when I hear about "modern hardcore" it sounds more like a mixture of metal and *ahem* pop punk

i mean i get where you're coming from but i think you're either basing that off of a small sample size or just outright wrong. there's definitely a lot of metal influence in the heavier stuff and i guess there's some pop punk elements in melodic hardcore but it's not all that often that i hear the two overlap. i can't think of many bands that i would call both pop punk and hardcore, at least not many that belong in this thread.

on that note:

Night Birds

High octane hardcore punk with some surf punk influence sprinkled in good for good measure cause why the **** not?

Kid dynamite, Pears and No Cash are examples of poppy hardcore. Tho, No Cash has crust inspired vocals.

Then there's skate punk in its entirety, which is melodic hardcore plus pop punk.

yeah it exists im just saying its not as prominent as elph thinks it might be in modern hardcore
