Started hearing about punk rock in high school and went and listened to the first Ramones album and the Sex Pistols. Forget which one I listened to first, it was around the same time.

we can find lots of examples in the blues, r&b, rockabilly, punk and psych of the 60’s, glitter rock etc. but to me it starts with the Stooges. VU were still too Art school and subdued. Stooges was all about being a caveman burnout bashing instruments and harassing the audience.

Death get cited but honestly before that documentary they were just a band record collectors knew of. They had no impact outside of their area. The Stooges were playing all over, opening for massive bands.

We can spend all day sharing songs from the 60’s that were punk, even hardcore. These were all small local bands typically who got to make small press 45 “demos” so that record labels could see if they’d get airplay.

I discovered punk in the early 90s and the first punk song i really liked was Do what you want by bad religion. Aside from them a spanish punk band called eskorbuto was pretty popular among my group of friends so those 2 bands were my first introduction to punk.

The first punk album I listened to would have been my mother's 2xLP of Clash's "London Calling" when I was a baby, but my first punk album (and don't make fun please) was Lars Frederiksen & The Bastards... followed up by AFI "Black Sails in the Sunset".

After that, I became obsessed with the genre and began reading, researching, and listening to everything I could. Now I have a decent collection of first wave, 2tone, hardcore, and third wave vinyl. Punk is by far my favorite genre because you can do so much with it (crossover with black metal, electroclash, emo, etc)

If crossover with black metal includes NME then I'd like confirmation.

Afraid I'm not sure what NME is, I'm sorry

I'm talking about some of the more recent Darkthrone albums, a lot of the stuff coming out on Profane Existence these days
