I've heard that a lot, then I go to see how the album holds up and can't help but think that I'm the one being trolled.

Stump - A Fierce Pancake

Some guy on RYM describes it as 80s King Crimson covering Captain Beefheart and while it's not quite on the nose it at least gives you the general direction.
No idea how I've never heard about those guys. Awesome stuff.

80s KC with Frith instead of Fripp covering Beefheart is a little closer. Good ****.

EDIT: Notes of Renaldo & the Loaf and Sun City Girls as the album goes on.

Yeah, the guitar is sick. Too bad the guitarist doesn't seem to have been in any other bands.
Listening to it with headphones now and damn is there a ton of cool-ass twists, turns and sounds.
