Yeah no Offspring have a bit of the sound but the overall sound is pop music in a way that isn't elitism, it's just not punk. You can hear the cynicism designed to sell records. Even Green Day don't have that by a mile.

If that moment didn't make people recoil in disgust, here's one that will - and I like a lot of the Offspring's material but this is inexcusable. They used to be able to write songs like "Pretty Fly", "Cool to Hate", and "Hit That" as a sort of satire, but this song is laughable for all the wrong reasons - the lines between satire and ****ty music are getting blurred:

Yikes. That's a little worse than I expected. That autotuned "californiaaa" line that keeps coming back is one of the worst bits. I haven't heard their last many albums and that's probably for the better.

Anyway, this is a favorite of mine from The Offspring.

Offspring started off really well and sort of got worse as time went on. Americana was certainly a downturn.

Great song - most of Smash is excellent. Here are some of my choice cuts from the band:

"Hammerhead" is the best song they've made in the last 10 years.

"Way Down the Line" is probably still my all time favorite Offspring song.

Smash, Ignition, and Conspiracy of One are their most consistent albums - but Ixnay on the Hombre is probably their most fun album.

"Come Out and Play" is such a lame song though. "You gotta keep 'em separated!" is one of the ****tiest interjections in a song ever.

Not going to argue with that - but certainly better than "Give it to me baby...UH HUH UH HUH!"

The Offspring, even at their most melodic and commercial, could construct a good hook and hit it out of the park occasionally. Though I could see why people wouldn't like this era of Offspring for the same reasons people don't like early Fall Out Boy or Rise Against.

Rise Against is really good too now that I think about it.

I dislike most punk, but I love The Offspring's 80's and 90's stuff. Their debut is amazing:

I agree that Americana was the beginning of the end, but it's worth owning if only for this masterpiece of a song:

It's been years since I heard it so I don't know about that sound anymore but it used to be hella fun.
