I don't really care if you don't like them either, but there just seems to be an oddly intense hatred and aversion for them here. I just thought of all place a "music" forum would be a bit more open.

I'm just not into pop punk in general m8. I've attempted to give it a fair shot and have found some good stuff on the post hardcore side of things but GD just is not the business.
And music nerds are the most closed minded *******s about music who ever existed, don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Some of us will give something else a shot if you've got it, Green Day is just old news.

That's a good point. The Beatles and especially Led Zeppelin seem to have lost their luster on here and their legends are obvious. It's like looking for a needle in the haystack to find anything on the Rolling Stones other than are they better than Aerosmith. But yeah, a lot of it for me, like Frownland, is simply not being a fan of Pop Punk. One of the worst things I ever heard is having to endure a hour and a half of that insipid music off American Pie. On thing I do like about Green Day is that they're able to get off their established sound on rare occasions. |

The fact that it's considered kind of weird if you don't kiss the asses of those bands is exactly what's so annoying about them. I don't have to think they made good music and I don't. It's pretty uncontroversial if you don't like all sorts of bands, but the moment you don't bow down before the altar of the Beatles, you get those "Bodysnatchers" stares.

It isn't just the Beatles. Chula takes a lot of grief here because he happens to be a Zeppelin fan boy. Someone could come on here extolling the virtues of the Who and he'll probably get booed off the stage. I'm amazed Pink Floyd hasn't been trashed here given their legendary status.
Anyway, it doesn't matter if it's the Beatles or Led Zeppelin or the Bonzo Doo Dah Dog Band. If they're good, they're good. Popularity doesn't weigh into it. At least not to me. |

Popularity shouldn't weigh into anything, but like I'll consider any band I like good, I'll consider any band I don't like bad. So basically, it just seems that some popular bands don't have a huge following on this site, which is really fair and square.
I think Pink Floyd did got taken down a peg at least a little a few months back. If I recall correctly, there's not as unanimous praise of The Wall and Dark Side Of The Moon as you'd maybe expect. I thought they were boring albums tbh |

Pink Floyd are being trashed regularly.
Everyone loves Black Sabbath, though. Literally everybody. So it might not just be about being against popular stuff. Maybe, just maybe, Beatles, Zep and PF do kinda suck or at least are quite a bit overrated.

Even grumpy old me. I mean, sure, I don't rank Sabbath albums like most would and I don't listen to them much, but I've still got a handful on my shelf.
Zep, Beatles, Floyd... they're all quite old bands by now. A lot has happened in music since and people of my age and younger didn't grow up with them like the 60's generation did. Disregarding historical context (which I always insist on doing), I can't really say that any of them seem that special to me. Especially the Beatles. Pink Floyd might have a few albums I could see myself getting into with time. Some of their earlier stuff was pretty interesting and very atmospheric. |
