"I wanna be your boyfriend" by Ramones is already a pop song in structure the reason it's punk is the tin can equipment bare production and off kilter vocals
I think pop-punk refers to a very specific milieu. Ramones and The Clash had melodic songs, but they still had a dirty production and unclean vocals. Pop-punk is structurally punk rock but with a super clean production and "conventionally good" pop singers. Basically just punk packaged as a corporate product. Whether you want to consider it primarily a subset of punk or pop is up to you.

Green Day are pop. The term pop punk is just a contradiction.

90s Green Day - yes
00s Green Day - somewhat
10s Green Day - definitely no.

You didn't deny it, though.

The use of the word "still" certainly implies that you did.

This made me chuckle in agreement, though, I do like a song or two from them. Overall, though, yes, microwaved diarrhea.
