I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

I kinda see green day like I see Weezer or Offspring. Just like them they started of with a signature sound that got them a bit of mainstream success and after that they abandoned their roots in search of more of that mainstream success.

In Green day's case they were successful at it and they went from a semi decent punk band to a generic radio friendly alternative band which was a smart career choice imo cause they weren't that good as a punk band.

Agreed, but when they did the really melodic stuff it was at least decent for the time, even though there are far better power punk bands from the era.

Everyone always raves on about Dookie but eh, It doesn't do much for me. I don't dislike it either, but still.

That's the most narrow defenition of punk that I've ever heard.
Asif Hardcore is the only punk genre.

Also Minor Threat is amazing.

Yeah, it's pretty narrow, and it mostly covers hardcore. But it doesn't have to be so fast--for example, I consider Ramones (at least 70s Ramones) and Sex Pistols punk. Or take the Clash. I consider their first two albums punk, but I'd say they weren't punk after that point.
