I recently made a little post punk instrumental you guys may like not sure if it is okay to post it here. Highly inspired by the XL Capris a some what forgotten Aussie post punk band.

Sounds interesting, gonna check it out.
Here's the thread for that:

why though? they've had a concert canceled particularly because of it, and they've declared the band name was chosen on a whim. i think gauging backlash between bands with incidentally and intentionally offensive names is kind of pointless; one band's lack of criticism shouldn't excuse another band. i think you could have used better examples, though.

good on them for going through with the name change.

Gotta say, pretty disappointed in myself with my huge lists of band a couple pages back that consisted mostly of non post punk bands. It was one of those moments where you think you know what a modern day version of an old genre sounds like but ends up being completely not the case. Turns out I just had no idea what the f*ck new post punk was supposed to sound like.

This is why I'm not a fan of genres. I suck at them.

Only Sidewinder and I will understand

I started listening to this record today, unbeknownst that this a post-punk band wrapped in gothic, industrial, & black metal chic. Recommending if you like any of these genres.

I'll definitely have to check it out.

^ I've listened to that a few times but it hasn't really sunk in. I really enjoy the ominous start of the album though.

The new Girls Names album is quite good. Got the limited cream-colored vinyl last week.

I'm really enjoying it. I like it a thousand times better than The New Life.

sidewinder 10-13-2015 10:09 PM

I liked The New Life a lot already so I wasn't sure how I would receive this one, but I dig it and it seems to have more life/energy.

Yeah, that's why I like it a lot better. The New Life had a few lively tracks but all the others got a bit bland.

How about The Men?

I think they're more garage punk/rock and noise rock, and some earlier stuff was post-hardcore. I liked about half of their 2011 album Leave Home but I've been less and less interested in subsequent albums. A few songs on Open Your Heart but New Moon was absolute shit and I didn't listen to the one after that. I found them a bit all over the place stylistically but the truth is I just found most of the songs to be shit. But that's beside the point. I don't think they're post-punk at all.

Exo 10-26-2015 05:11 PM

Protomartyr's new album is pretty fantastic.

Tristan_Geoff 10-26-2015 07:30 PM

Really? I hear at least a little post-punk in their sound, especially in Leave Home and Open Your Heart if nothing else.

Ah, it's a great band too whatever. I can see why you would think that though, but I kind of like the smorgasbord of influences.

Samaran11 10-29-2015 05:37 AM

There's a punk edge to all of post-hardcore though. That's where it comes from.

In a sense, one could argue that post-hardcore is to the 90s what post-punk was to the 80s. 70s punk lead to post-punk, hardcore punk lead to post-hardcore.

I think I said this exact thing earlier in the thread, though worded differently.

Tristan_Geoff 10-30-2015 02:35 PM

Yeah that's pretty much punk fact, but I think we were arguing more over if The Me. Hae elements of post-punk or not. It really doesn't matter, because either way I consider tem as such and like them thoroughly, but the debate remains open.

sidewinder 11-04-2015 02:53 PM

^ I heard about them last week but didn't dig the vocals very much.

Self Defense Family | Heaven Is Earth

This is post punk right? I don't care what it is it's fucking great.

Frownland 10-31-2017 01:30 PM

I'd call it post hardcore, but what is the actual difference between that and post punk? It's fantastic regardless.
