Why would anyone want to discuss a genre of music if every time they mentioned it they had to explain what it is

There are already what..i'm guessing about 30 threads filled with 'what punk is' arguments that you could look at anyway. But of course someone just has to make a new one.

Punk never went anywhere.
I barely listen to any punk or hardcore after 1986 these days, werd werd. I guess I just don't get any of these newer punk bands, they play stuff that has been done before, originality seems to be lost.

Stop pissing your pants, new people always make threads like this. Nothing to cry about.

I'm not 'crying' about it, we just don't need 800 threads about the same thing, especially when 90% of them aren't even closed, so why don't you tell that to the people who get all pissy when someone makes a green day thread

look on the bright side, there are no new green day threads... instead we have one about what to do when your phone gets damaged. we might just start discussing about what to do when your teeth are nasty

Thats the thing now-a-days..u dont really kno ne-more wat "Punk" is . LIke the past is in the past..everything punk back then..may not be exactly the same now..like u could say "Simple plan" is punk now..which in my opinion are not..but then again u could also say "The Matches" are..so ya kno. And also punk isnt just a type of music..its also a lifestlye..and style. Thats my opinion.!

ok, ok. you bunch of idiots misunderstood what i meant. i dont need a bunch of ****s who sit around all day on their computer to tell me what punk is. im not ****ing stupid. the reason for me making this thread is for you to tell me why a certain band is punk, considering that everyone is arguing about it.

^ No one will change their mind. People are so set on what they think is punk, pop-punk, hardcore, emo, and pop that it will do no good and just start a flame war. But, if you are into such things, be my guest. And the insults aren't appreciated.

I thought I'd briefly comment in general about all these genre feuds we have on these boards.
I don't believe that defining a band to a given genre is necessarily an opinion, at least 99% of the time. If you have ears, and have listened to the style before, there really is no debate.
As much as everyone hates the "genre anal" elitists, they're correct on most occassions (perhaps not on the associated namecalling, but on the genre). As much as people hate labeling a given band to a given style, it makes things easier, particularly for people who are looking for new bands that are similar to ones they already like.
