Default Gang of Four's 'Entertainment!' vs. Joy Division's 'Unknown Pleasures'

Two titanic post-punk albums, both highly revered respectively. One focuses on politics while the other focuses on inner (industrial) turmoil...but which one do you prefer and why?

holy ****.

I'm going to have to pick Entertainment! because to me it's not only one of my favourite albums ever, I think it's one of the best post punk albums. I love every track

as for Unknown pleasures, lol well I always preferred New Order actually. if this was between Power, Corruption, and Lies I would have a much harder time picking

Gotta go with unknown pleasures. Shadowplay is probably a top 20 all time song for me. I like Gang of Four too but they're far from my favorite post punk band

By a very slim margin, Unknown Pleasures. I love the gloomy sound Martin Hannett was able to give them as producer, and Disorder is my all time favorite JD track.

I love Entertainment! too though.

If I wasn't already aware of A Certain Ratio I would have said Entertainment!, but honestly after I found them I didn't really bother to listen to much Gang of Four after.

So I guess Unknown Pleasures wins by default.

Entertainment - Pretty easy choice for me although they are both great. Just love the groove of the album, what a killer rhythm section. One of my favorite albums of all time. And they were one of the best live bands I have ever seen as well.

I like the more abrasive approach with the guitars on Entertainment!. Unknown Pleasures is a good album but I don't spin it as much as I used to, while I'm always up for some Entertainment!.

Bought both albums when they were released, listened to both of them often and still have them in my collection. Don't listen to either one much these days, but 'Entertainment!' always got more spins on my turntable so It gets my vote.

Never much cared for Joy Division. I generally always end up wanting to listen to something else before one song is through. Not awful, just don't care.

But Entertainment's twitchy guitars are just ear sex.
