I don't know much about the punk movement in general, so history doesn't play a role in my choice. I have to say Ramones for no reason other than the fact that I'd rather listen to them than the Sex Pistols. Not really passionate about either band, though.

The Ramones also had the advantage of being movie stars (the obligitory "Rock 'N Roll High School" joke)! I think I know way too much about bad movies with guest appearances by great bands...

I think The Ramones are better. The Sex Pistols have a few ok moments but they are mostly bad.

Ramones are, alongside The Beach Boys, among those funny bands who make me feel incredibly happy for no reason. That's something that goes beyond Punk.
Sex Pistols, on the contrary, aren't even able to infuse that sense of rage and fury that characterizes bands such as The Stooges.
Sex Pistols give you nothing but depression.
