Really a tragic loss. The majority new wave bands don't do it for me but Devo is one of the exceptions. Been pumping Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! (my fave of their discography) a lot lately en memorandum.

The following clip is from the We're All Devo compilation, transferred to the Videodisc/DVD of The Complete Truth About De-Evolution, explaining the extra footage co-starring Lauraine Newman (Classic SNL, First Cast). The main of this clip is from the film Human Highway which was where the "Hey Hey My My" footage came from. To those who have not seen Human Highway, it's Neil Young's interesting film also starring Dennis Hopper, Russ Tamblyn, and Dean Stockwell along with Young and Devo which at least should be seen once.

Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA Devo recorded this ~35 years ago, it still sounds like it from 35 years in the future.

That whole album, especially the opener, has so much punk attitude, yet in a way which is truly unique, unpredictable and awesomely weird. And the following album continues the trend of ''doing whatever the heck the artist wants''. Non-conformity to perfection. |
