Swell Maps is definitely one of my favorite post punk bands. They were innovative and didn't let their lack of proficiency stop them from coming up with great material - straight punk sounds in songs like "H. S. Art" , industrial sounding vibes in songs like "Robot Factory", and songs you could almost call sweet like "Cake Shop". The way they manipulated sounds (fuzzed out guitars etc) became influential to bands like Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth as well.

Swell Maps are a joy. Those two records are both so good, and full of ideas - it took me a while to get on board with them, but they get better and better every time I listen.

Gunboats - with that beautifully simple bassline cutting through the chaos. Probably my favourite song by them.

Reminds me, I've still to check out the music Nikki Sudden made after Swell Maps finished.

Yes! Same here. Let's Build A Car was the first I'd heard, I was pretty meh about it. Now I'm glad I gave them another listen.
