Link Wray
im not sure where i should post this, but Link Wray should definatly get some credit for being the grandfather of Punk. First of all, Link was born in North Carolina, and started out with the Palamino Ranch Hands, a bluegrass band, but soon dropped out. Then with his two brothers, Lucky and Vernon, got signed to Starday records in texas. In 1958 he got more involved in guitar, because he had lost a lung in a bout with tuberculosis. Now they changed their name to the Wray-Men, with Vernon changing his name to Ray Vernon, and becoming their manager. link was the first to wear leather jackets and have the "punk" attitude of "**** you, i dont care if you dont like me", and by making Rumble, the first punk single. Link Wray may never get into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, but he still made a huge inpact on rock in general by creating the power chord and inspiring Beck-Clapton-Townshed to play.
