cross out mad caddies, catch 22, and reel big fish
if you want a definitive sound for all three "waves" or styles. Pick up the skatalites who are THE traditional jamaican sound, the toasters or the specials are my recomendatoin for 2tone, and the slackers or eastern standard time |
hepcat, pietasters, kongo shock for straight up good ska, but if yer feelin a little frisky check out blue meanies or buck o' nine.
|
much appreciated...

Wtf...why cross them out completely? If you're a ska virgin shouldn't you listen like 3rd, 2nd, then 1st wave? I mean Skatalites rock but you have to ease into it dude. I like The Specials though. Desmond Dekker for first wave as well. Method of your listening depends upon Shandapanda, does it certainly, yesss. Listen to these bands, wise will you become. :hphones: |
cross them out completly because they dont play ska. They asked for ska bands, not pop punk with horns.
|
Hey, it's classified as 3rd wave ska, so I'm not crossing it out completely.
If you want pop punk with horns check out MCR or something, not anything like Hepcat, Buck-O-Nine, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Voodoo Glow Skulls, or The Suicide Machines.........jeez All Nite Dinah, it's still a variation of ska. |
I've never listened to ska much either...
Dont even know much... I agree, MCR's newer CD would be good punk/pop with-a-twist |

You can barley lump hepcat with buck-o-nine,VGS, and the mighty mighty bosstones. I think your missing the facts. Mad caddies, catch 22, and reel big fish are not ska bands. Thats all there is to it. Just because a band has some horns dont mean there a ska band. Nearly every single "third wave ska" band dosnt play ska. And no Im not being some sort of genre elitist or something its just as simple as they dont play ska. Ska punk is not ska. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck I hate "third wave" |
Exactly. Third-wave ska is basically sing-along pop-punk bands with horns. Third wave pretty much killed whatever shreds of 'ska' was left. God knows how far from tradition the fourth and subsequent waves will be.
Hepcat is a good band btw. And, hardly can be mentioned with mmb, vgs, 1.09. Actually none of those bands can be lumped together really, if you think about it. |
