55 or so bands i think should have been on William the Bloody's list
i didn't really want to take over William's thread but i did want to attempt to continue in the same spirit....seriously that thread was a blast while it was going and it really invoked some great participation....i hope this one does too
so at that i'll keep the post simple and quick as he did....a little bio, why i like them and maybe a silly anecdote should i have one and then a couple of examples for evidence i've already made the list and put them in order of importance to me so like he did...i'll try to make this pretty quick and add at least three or four a week the list actually has about 59 bands but some are so closely related to each that i figured i would combine them....ie Kid Dynamite and None More Black 55. Tartar Control (punk rock, comedy punk) ,Orange County, CA, era:Present day they are two Mormons...Robert and Sean...from Salt Lake City who are on their mission in the greater Los Angeles area.....the invented and built an ill tempered robot who plays the bass and drums and helps them to distribute what they call "loud hugs"....as my friend Ryan told me "there is no way in hell these guys are Mormons." Robert, Sean, and Robot are nothing short of hilarious....the music is simple but surprisingly good....and the lyrics are so ****ing funny....with songs about smoking crack as stress release, homicidal chimney sweeps, and of course Jesus these guys are just a riot....just watch their hilarious videos i can honestly say that the real experience here is their live show....Robert is beyond confrontational with the audience....if you ever have a chance check these guys out live plus i'm almost positive they are the first band in the history of all music with a "goat rape" solo (see Diabolical) Holy Crap (Album Commercial) Jesus Is Love Diabolical |

thanks man
well i'm sitting here waiting for Game of Thrones to start so i might as well do another 54. The Pist (punk rock), Waterbury, CT era:1992-1996 The Pist were a straight out punk rock tour de force....in the mid to late 90s there was a great influx of DIY bands coming from all around and playing all sub genres....Blanks 77, Aus Rotten, Ottawa and at the time a very little known band called Jawbreaker....The Pist were very much in this group out of all the bands i just listed (save Jawbreaker) The Pist are really one of the only bands from that time that still do anything for me....it is straight by the numbers hardcore punk rock (not a bad thing at all)....fast short songs, anti authoritative and well....Pist...and in a time when metal and emotion were starting to take over the scene it was nice to hear some straight on circle pit and sing along punk music i first found The Pist from two comps i bought back in 1994 Pogo attack and Punk USA....on the latter is a track called Threat...and still to this day it gets me hyper as all hell...."as long as we're alive then PUNKS NOT DEAD YET!" Threat Destroy Society Right To Choose |

I, too, am super excited to see your +/- 55 favorite punk bands, bob.
By the way, your friend is right, there's no way in hell that Tartar Control are practicing members of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Also, they have a youtube channel where they will answer any questions.

again thanks man
those guys from Tartar Control are amazing at staying in character.....if you search either of their names on youtube you get results of some amazing stand up comedy....Robert being the reanimated corpse of Walt Disney and Sean as Charles Manson doing stand up or the two pof them doing a stage production of Evil Dead for example.....but if you go to a Tartar Control show they are as Mormon as Joseph Smith seriously the album Holy Crap is so stupid and fun it cause brain cell lose |

53. Wasted Youth (hardcore punk, skate punk) Los Angeles, CA era:1981-1988
Wasted Youth came out of the thriving LA punk scene and although fairly typical i think they deserve more attention than they seem to get....their first album Reagan's In consists of ten damn near perfect songs and clocks in at a mere 15 minutes....i think they released two p[roper albums and one ep....and by the end they were more a kind of thrash crossover band....and in my opinion not a good one but that first album i think would be on most top punk album lists Problem Child We're On Heroin Fuck Authority |

Good idea, keep em coming! I thought there were a couple of fairly obvious bands I was surprised at not getting in (other than Fugazi obviously which William stated he disliked from the off) so will be interested to see what you dig up!

Hey pretty cool, it's funny that I just saw this as I was in the midst of working on revamping my own list.
(I'm disastisfied with it, as it kept bubbling upstairs & I don't feel I did a good job capturing the heavy end of the spectrum...so I am in grindcore world right now) I'll be interested in what you list. As I recall I believe your into the whole vegan straight edge scene, so there is one band I added, that I'm betting that will be on here!!! It will be very interesting to see. Perhaps when your done, we can make a joint list together with Janzoon as the mediator. Afterall I lowballed Gorrila Biscuits, but go to better everynight wrapped in my G.B.H. bed sheets, cheers. |
