Saw Dayglo last night. Smoked bubble hash with Cretin. Chatted with him from about an hour. Super cool guy.
Some faves: Plus can not forget Cretin's Country Punk side project:

Never been to Rickshaw, but I do know one of the guys who has a part in that club, Denyss McKnight. He was a member of The Black Halos (bass player), who are one of my favorite Canadian bands.

22. Sham 69 ,Genre (Punk Rock) London United Kingdom era, 70's
Cosmic Psychos Genre (Punk Rock) Australia, era 80's 90's Often touted as the voice of the working class during the first wave of punk, Sham 69 brought in the shouting back up vocals and sing a longs that would be a precursor to the Oi! movement. I personally like them better than the Damned, but the Sex Pistols had a more aggressive tone to them, and Lydon was ultimately a better front man than Pursey. (ie see the Sham Pistols) Borstal Breakout We Got A Fight Rip Off Cosmic Psychos An Australian punk rock band that was brought to my attention in this forum. Upon hearing the track "nice day to go to the pub" I thought they were going to be a straight up oi! band, but they actually have a psychedelic tinge in their music. 21. Social Distortion, Genre (Punk Rock/melodic hardcore) California USA, era, 80's/90's
& The Adolescents Genre (Punk Rock/Melodic hardcore) California, USA, era 80's Social Distortion: Probably one of the most highly regarded American punk rock bands, and one of the few 80's originals that successfully rode the alternative wave of the 90's without selling out. Often described as the Sex Pistols meets the Rolling Stones, R.I.P. Dennis Danell. Machine Gun Blues (Cool music video) She's a Knockout It's The Law The Adolescents Since some of the members of the Adolescents were originally members of Social Distortion (as marginal as it may be) I thought I would throw them in here. I'm not quite sure as to why I never got into this band, as upon review, I do like the bands little guitar solo melodies, but ultimately I think it comes down to two things for me. I'm not big on the vocals, and I think they could have ramped up the speed for the style they were playing. No Way Amoeba Last edited by William_the_Bloody; 07-05-2013 at 04:55 PM. |

Still love Social D (though I think apart from "Machine Gun Blues", their last album was their weakest album yet - especially compared to the greatness of "Sex, Love and Rock n Roll")
Was supposed to meet Mike Ness in 07, when The Black Halos opened for em, I was invited to come down and hang out with them. Wasn't able to make it to that one though, my ride cancelled last minute. Plus I didn't have a ticket. Ran into the guy who invited me a couple years later at a Halos show, and I told him how I didn't have a ticket. Said "You should have called me, only assholes need tickets.. could have just got you on the guest list" Would have been entertaining, as it was the same show that Billy talks about at the start of this:

Love me some Social D. Saw them first in 83 at a backyard party in Garden Grove California. They are one of those fringe acts that could be considered rock n roll or punk, but their roots are steeped in punk rock certainly. I wouldn't pay to see them anymore because their sets are leaning heavily towards the newer material, but they certainly deserve the cred they've earned. Too many House of Blues shows for 50 bucks and not enough throw back shows at the juke joint for 15 bucks.

i have not posted in here for some time but i have been reading and as always enjoying your list
just wanted to comment on number 25....personally i cannot stand Rage Against the Machine....but i think Inside Out is one of the best hardcore bands ever....one 5 song ep that is only 15 minutes long and better than the output of most bands....personally i never got to see them but i have seen Vic's other band 108 several times and they always end their sets with No Spiritual Surrender....and let me tell you've never lived until you see a crowd ignite to that song....and i mean explode with energy.....to the point that when chanting "no spiritual surrender" you can't even hear the band at all ^this is hardcore perfection....seriously in mine eyes it just does not get better than this |
