Iceage
I didn't find any thread for these dudes here, though they may have been mentioned in one i didn't see. But i feel like they shouldn't be overlooked; i'm not the biggest Punk fan, as in taking care to look deep in the genre. But these Danish dudes caught my attention right off. Anyway, proof:
|
I love this band!
These are my favorites: |
These guys are dope
|
They're very Wire-ish to me, which i love, but with less regard for tightness, almost swaggering like the Stooges, which i also love. One riff even got funky like a Minutemen melody, which is always a plus. It seems like a strange, delicate balance of various forms of punk that they maintain with great success.
|
I rather like them, though I wouldn't say they're my favorite new punk band. I do, however, look forward to their future, I've listened to their debut tons of times.
|
Heard their record last year when it was hot. I remember it being pretty decent without exactly blowing me away.
Couple of songs stick in mind, as being catchy punk tracks with good vocals. Wouldn't say they were exactly revolutionary or anything though. |
No, it's definitely not revolutionary. I'm more of a fan of comfy punk, stuff that's practically archetypical. Bad Brains, Clash, Ramones, even Trash Talk, whom i've heard referred to as traditional hardcore revival. I especially love super-melodic punk, which I find most of these to be. But yeah, this kind of punk is like putting on slippers and cozying up with the fire.
|
I've always found them engaging. Its solid roots punk like described. I give them a spin occassionally when i'm doing other tasks.
|
there was a lot of hype about these guys last year.....it's not bad but at the same time it's very by the numbers
i don;t think i would ever listen to the album as a whole again but don't mind when a songs pops up on random |
They're whipping out a new album soon, and to celebrate, they gave me these singles:
Even rootsier, and the vocalist seems a little more emotive, maybe vulnerable, than before. Also very emotive, and with a more poppish, disco-like beat. It seems like this record could lean exclusively for the 70s aspect of punk history. |
yeah "you're nothing" is really good
i wish more of the songs were on youtube to post |

Yeah, this album is pretty fantastic. My favorite songs are Burning Hand and Everything Drifts.
|
It was definitely a more aggressive and punky-er album than I was expecting. I quite enjoyed it.
|
the lead vocalist reminds me of a younger joe strummer occasionally.
It's way more aggressive i wish there was something to break it up second half of the album kinda(though the vocals in danish(?) were neat) so far my faves are "burning hand" and "rodfaest" besides the tracks previously released |
It's weird. The singer of Iceage has got to be the worst singer I've ever heard... but I like it.

The Deerhoof lady actually sings a discernible melody AND she sings in the right key. Iceage dude on the other hand might actually be deaf. Or maybe he's really into atonal and microtonal music. |

Is this better than their 2011 album? I downloaded You're Nothing a month or so ago but haven't got round to listening to it yet. |
Personally, I liked the last album more. This is much rawer, has a little more range, and so on, but I really liked the space and chaos of the last album. It also seemed more focused on clearer melody.
But this album is certainly recommended! I need to give it some more listening really. |
So, I hadn't really heard of Iceage until someone played them in plugdj. I heard "Ecstasy", and was like "Man, this is too fucked up". I listened to 'You're Nothing" and I immediately took a liking to it. I love "In Haze" and "Ecstasy", but my favorites on the album will change within the next few listens.
|
Really liked YK and Brigade. Hope they change it up for the next album though.
|
Yeah I think You're Nothing may just be my album of the year so far. It succeeds at being dark and depressing but also at being energetic as well.
|
NEW STUFF WET YOURSELF BEFORE YOU CHECK YOURSELF
Very Meat Puppets, love it that violinist looks kinda like Ben Kingsley. It's an emotional piece and this is because of/in addition to a piano, I'll let you make that call. Interesting video too though, especially in comparison to the others. I really like that one though. I might def be buying this album, whereas I did not buy You're Nothing, and have yet to buy New Brigade. |
the new album is my favorite this year,
After seeing them and hanging out with Elias, I think he made me gay.....lol nah but you know, I can't stop thinking about him |
The Plowing Into the Field of Love is less agressive than their previous albums, it's really nice but You're Nothing still owns the crown.
|
I wish I could enjoy You're Nothing like everyone else does, but since day one I've never took a liking to it. New Brigade and Plowing Into the Field Of Love are masterpieces though.
