I'll throw in: Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician Half Japanese - 1/2 Gentlemen / Not Beasts (MOST PUNK ROCK BAND EVER) Suicide - Suicide (first band to use the label and continue to be one of the best!) Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance (come on, dudes! 15 pages and no Pere Ubu?) Black Flag - Damaged (another obvious one that to my knowledge no one in this thread picked? for shame!) |

haha. tis alright.
Though recently I have favored "The First Four Years" over "Damaged" though. I love Damaged, but I like the rawness to Keith Morris, his vocals were incredible... as were Ron Reyes, who is my favorite of them all.

The early 80's LA Punk scene had far more impact on me than the UK one did, partly because a lot of the UK stuff felt more like rock & roll with attitude, whereas the stuff coming out of LA was more angst-ridden, confrontational howls of rage, but then I was 18 at the time, living in So. Cal in the thick of it, so I am definitely biased.
As such though, my heart belongs to Black Flag. My War and Slip It In both came out the same year and 'Black Coffee' was like an anthem. ('Drinkin' Black Coffee, stare at the WALL!). All of the SST bands were great though, and I've got to give a shout out to Fear also - their first record was an all time great punk album. |

I don't see Suicidal Tendencies' S/T in here much, it's a true classic, in fact arguably the best of the genre, from a band that only made one punk record before recording their amazing crossover material. (I guess crossover is sort of punk, but mixed with metal basically)
I like the soft/slow to fast/heavy dynamic they use, they definitely inspired The Pixies |
