Finally found me some good pop punk: The Manges

And some rockabilly stuff:

And this should be in some metal thread but whatever... I'm already here:

Love this album so much. Plus, who can't love a band who calls themselves Elvis Hitler. Marilyn Manson seems so tame now.

Got inspired to listen to that song after listening to this one.... not punk, but awesome none the less.

Not really punk, but this is kicking my ass at the moment.

After hearing many of the songs individually, I finally found a copy of the Monks - Black Monk Time and it really lives up to the hype. The music is probably more 60's Garage than straight punk, but there's always been a very fine line there and I think the Monks straddle it nicely. Songs like 'I Hate You (But Call Me)' are very funny, but there is a real sense of anger and frustration in these songs as well, and that combination reminded me of early LA punk bands like Fear and Black Flag.

This is one of those records that hipper musicians love to name check, and sometimes that can lead to some pretty ponderous listening, but 'Black Monk Time' is a fun, rockin' record (especially after a couple of beers) and more than lives up to it's rep as a 'progenitor of punk'.

So I've been listening to this for the past thirty minutes or so, and when I first put it on, it didn't really do much for me. Didn't really have much to latch onto, but I stuck with it, cause I could swear there was something there, and boy am I glad I did. I can't remember the last time I heard a more perfect album to wallow in misanthropy and nihilism to.
