Default Evens

Ian Mckaye and some lady formed a group years ago. I never could relate to the angst of Minor Threat but love me some Fugazi.

This isn't very similar to either...

Anyway, they announced a third album. What do people think of them?

That lady is Amy Farina, MacKaye's wife (I think) and mother of their child.

I've only heard the first Evens album but the song you posted tells me their sound hasn't changed much. I really like their acoustic, skeletal sound.

Yeah. After listening to them more, i wouldn't say there anything particularly special.

Ian Mckaye does find nice vocal talent.

I like her voice a lot, both her and guy picoiito have some distinct voices.

Huh, I guess this lady Amy Farina used to play for Ted Leo thats pretty cool

I think their first album is pretty special. I need to dig it out - haven't listened in years. I think the political messages work as well or better in this format than some of MacKaye's previous bands. Here's a great one.

I've never cared for all that political mumbo jumbo from ian mckaye (i know that doesn't make a whole lot of of sense)

It was always the introspection. The general frustration he had with common life, it was that kind-off punk etho's i could always get down with.

hey man, i know where you're coming from (yeah.. bull****!)

furniture has no say in life

it was made to be used by people

how many times have you felt like a bookcase

sitting in a living room gathering dust

full of thoughts already written? (how 'bout now?)
and songs like waiting room.

I know he's trying to awaken me with the political lyricsm, and make me conscious and inspire critical thoughts of administration, but my mental response is always "eh whatever"

I don't think he's evangelizing as much as just writing songs about what he knows / cares about. He's just a musician after all, and he knows that.

He and Farina are just trying out a different musical style together with this band. I think it works, for the most part. I like it.

Yeah I was being facetious. I'm all for it as well.

I don't know if your familiar with the show Portlandia but I can't help but picture them as the over-aged hipster couple from that show. And i say that with affection

Damn, I just realized Carrie Brownstein is only a few months older than me.
I'm over-aged

I tried to get into them - as I love Ian and his musical output. Minor Threat, Fugazi, Embrace ... 3 of my favorite bands. But for whatever reason I found The Evens to be boring. Tried to get into them a couple times, and it just does little for me.
