Default The Germs

Well a band that I've listened to alot in the "punk" genre is The Germs and I've always noticed that they've never really received the credit that I felt they deserved......
For instance alot of the late 70s bands that came out were merely mediocre and people can say that The Germs musical structure was a bit ridiculous, but Darby Crash's songwriting was really good imo....
And The Germs were one of the bands that helped innovate the "Hardcore Punk" sub-genre that would bloom through out the 80s.

They feature pretty prominently in the Decline of Western Civilisation. I think that film probably put paid to *******s worshipping Darby Crash as 'oh so punk.'

Well they were in the film along with a few other notable punk bands(Fear,Black Flag, etc.)
But if you're doubting their punk credibility then maybe you should listen to a few more of their songs.

Jesus. I'm not doubting that they were instrumental in launching hardcore punk. I'm just thinking that watching Crash turn himself into a total mess tainted the band's reputation. People don't remember the music, they remember the man.

Going to have to disagree with you there... I find that the late 70s spawned some of the most interesting and innovative music to ever come out of rock, especially with post-punk and genres related to it (i.e. No Wave and industrial).

I totally agree. A very large amount of my favorite music came from the late 70s. The punk music was a little bit more experimental and not fully formed but that is what made it so cool.

Really?

Whenever I hear the Germs mentioned it is usually in glowing terms.

Legends like Kurt Cobain praised them and even hired their guitar player for a time (Pat Smear)
