They were really good until I discovered bands like Teenage Bottlerocket who play essentially the same music but faster, catchier, and with better production.

Engine 01-29-2012 05:30 PM

And this somehow suddenly made the Ramones bad?

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-29-2012 05:33 PM

The thing I always liked about the Ramones was you knew it was them the second one of their songs starts because they had such a unique sound.

Most modern punk leaves me cold because I can listen to 100 different bands and barely tell any difference between them.

No, it made them dated.

Well, not to harp on this, but I still can't see how dated = bad.
You're the one who said they "were really good" after all. Good music gets aged, of course, but does it become bad because of that?
(hint: No, it doesn't.)

TB is a crap band, saw them live. They sucked.

Edit: Yes I enjoyed them a lot, but I discovered newer bands that I thought did that 3-chord pop punk sound better, so I listened to them instead.

I saw them live and I thought they put on one of the most fun sets I've seen, so as far as I'm concerned, you're wrong. :finger:

They played average pop-punk music like 99% of all fat Wreck bands, and had no stage presence.. I thought they put on a really boring show.

If you're expecting more, you're doing it wrong. Their music is fun and catchy, there's nothing more to it than that; or The Ramones for that matter.

They were pretty energetic when I saw them, worked the crowd well and all.

I fully admit to only really liking their first 2 albums (I also have a soft spot for Brain Drain) and the rest is probably not worth much because it's so unvaried but fuck me, kids, they were a good band.

No, I kept the first album. It's alright.

100%....ALL is literally all of Decendents but without Milo (the Scott Reynolds years are my favorite) i love both ALL and Decendents

i agree with this.....the only other band i thing that falls into this is another band that seems to be constantly in this same argument....Bad Religion...i love it when people tell me how much they hate Bad Religion 2 seconds after each song starts :)

absolutely not :)....i do agree with the comments about Ramones clone bands in many ways destroying the appeal....but i don't think that has anything to do with the Ramones....i mean i like both Screeching Weasel and The Queers....both of which at least at some point in their careers sound so much like Ramones its annoying.....but i blame the bands not the influence

Dang just the other day I was listening to the Descendents 'Somery' and there was a guitar riff on there that Green Day had totally stolen for one of their hit singles.

Well I could go and find the Green Day song, but I don't want to subject myself to listening to their 'music' (I despise that band immensely. )

BastardofYoung 01-31-2012 04:52 AM

show me the Descendents link. I am sure I can figure out the Green Day song if that is the case.

I'm pretty sure it was 'clean sheets'

Anyhow in the end it doesn't really matter because of the preponderance of evidence of other rip-age:

I Never Realized How Much Green Day Ripped Off Other Bands Until Their Game Came Out

BastardofYoung 01-31-2012 02:16 PM

but really in their defense, virtually ever band has ripped off each other if you are just going by a riff here and there.

This is so true in pop-punk when it comes to riffs and chord progressions that it isn't even worth mentioning.

Could you define "oxymoron" please?

Frownland 02-21-2021 10:26 AM

An oximoron is someone who falls for all of Billy Mays's claims.

Yup - that song and every MK remix of it is absolutely classic. Killer track.

Personally, this is my go to MK remix of the track:

And of course, you can't forget about Mufasa:

And speaking of Mufasa and the popularity that the video generated, Nightcrawlers actually managed to get him to appear on an official collab recently, which is dope as hell.

I guess you could say, the song has a storied history, and MK has just been one of the driving forces.

Love the Idiot now.... but back then he was not on earth very often....

Much Better with his old band...still chaos though, part of the Punk charm..
