ok, i'm not punk and don't particulary like the genre, but i have a question/request...i always thought that punk was the sex pistols, so when i started listening to greenday and offspring it didn't really add up, they were too melow, and kinda popish...but then it occured to me that the ramones were punk way back, and they were kinda popish, so i came to the conclusion that punk is fast pop...but then i bought renegades from rage against the machine, and on it was a cover of in my eyes, and i thought, well this is/was what punk should sound like...so i'm asking could someone download this cover from RATM and tell me what they think of it?isn't that what punk should sound like?

I listened to that song In My Eyes, I've never heard that before.
I'd say that was thrash punk if that makes sense. It sounded a little more L.A. influenced, more hardcore, but that's what most all of RATM's stuff sounds like, just some has a little hip-hop influence too. I think that The Ramones weren't classified as pop-punk because they were one of the first and back then everything was "heavier". Maybe that's why it was called punk-rock, it was proto-punk anyway. I mean if Green Day had come out as early as that with their American Idiot album it would have probably been classified as punk, because when it just started people hadn't discovered all the little sub-genres and whatnot. I think The Ramones didn't appeal to EVERYONE as well and that's why they were more "punkish". I guess they weren't as popular as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin at the time so they were more "underground". I wouldn't call Green Day "underground". But I don't know, I wasn't alive in '78. so I wouldn't know. I've just been rambling.
